    Hi There

The last few days, when we are using our internet connection, and we go to click on a page or link, the timer curser comes up on the screen, and then does nothing, like the screen has frozen, it says "internet explorer not responding.
I have to close the internet and go back in again. Could this be a virus? Any advice on how to fix this, and how to protect my laptop?

We had McAfee anti virus, but think the subscription had ran out.

    Thanks!

    It's probably related to McAfee

    Do this

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
    • Close all other windows before proceeding.
    • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

    Hey,

Seems as your virus protection is out of date the first thing you should do is sort this out either by updating your McAfee one or installing another program. AVG Anti-Virus and Spybot Search & Destroy are pretty good anti-virus and spyware protection programs that are both freeware. You can download them from my site

    [link removed]

or else search for them in google.

Run an up to date virus and spyware check and that will identify any threats on your computer.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello

Please click on Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs(if present):

    MyWebSearch
    MyWebSA
    FunWebProducts

    1. Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL
    O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...p=ZUxdm265YYIE
    O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} () - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/noc...1.0.0.15-3.cab

    2. Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

    Please download OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
    • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

      C:\WINDOWS\system32\f3PSSavr.scr
      C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch
      C:\Program Files\FunWebProducts

    • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
    • Click the red Moveit! button.
    • Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Please "Copy" the results from the "Results" window (to the right) and then "Paste" them into your next reply on the forum.

Note : If a reboot was necessary or you needed to Exit before posting the log, you will find a copy of the log at the root of the drive where OTMoveIt is installed, usually at :
    C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\********_******.log
    (where "********_******" is the "date_time")

    Click "Exit" to close OTMoveIt.

You also need to remove McAfee since it is outdated and conflicting with your Windows Firewall. Download and run the removal tool from here

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Reboot and post a new DSS log after all that

If I uninstall mcAfee, can you recommend some other virus protector, hopefully free, as I need to get this sorted once and for all!!

    Thanks for all your help!!

    Yes I can

Make sure you remove McAfee before you download any of these

Also disable Windows Firewall as well

    1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

    Then download these

    * Some good free firewalls are ZoneAlarm, Comodo, or
    Outpost
Make sure you only use one firewall though. A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

Here are some good programs, make sure you only use one though :
AVG makes an excellent free antivirus client, as do AntiVir or avast!.

Reboot after that and post a new DSS log and tell me how it all went
