Capture NX

Capture NX is causing me problems. I installed it on my PC and my Macbook. It works fine on my macbook. Installed it on my desktop PC and it won't open D3 NEF's and won't check for updates, it keeps telling me there is no connection?
I then installed it on my GF's laptop to see if the problem was my PC but her laptop has the same issues as my Desktop.....anyone else have issues like these with Capture NX....It's doing my head in. I need CS3!

what version is it? xp or vista?

Have you tried the trial version of Lightroom?

Might be a cheaper alternative to CS3?

I'm running windows XP on my PC. I did get some Viruses on my PC last weekend and I sorted that out so I don't think thats the problem with NX. I've checked for updates with dial-up (yeah dial-up....its the 21st Century and I have to use dial-up!). MY GF's laptop is clean and it won't recognise D3 RAW's on her laptop either and keeps telling me it can't find a connection. It recognises my D200 RAW's no problem.
I think I'll look into Lightroom, but I'd like to get Capture NX sorted too.

Ok, I think I've worked out the problem. Last night flicking through the menu's I saw the USB setting was set to the default [MTP/PTP] setting instead of the camera being recognised as a Mass Storage Device. I uploaded some photos tonight to my PC and I'd shot a few Jpegs to see if NX would read them. It did, great! Then I said 'd see if it would open a NEF I shot since chaning the USB setting to Mass Storage Device....to my surprise the NEF's opened!
I tried to open a NEF that I shot while the cameras USB setting was set to [MTP/PTP] but they still won't open on my PC.
Thats one problem sorted....now to work out why my PC keeps crashing my modem!
