jeans aren't really smart/casual, i'd go for slacks as i'm a guy, so what ever is eqivilent to slacks for a girl would suffice.

Just wear something smart for the first day and see how everyone else is dressed.

Basically it means no runners, jeans, hats etc.

Wear a pair of black trousers with a casual top (thats obviously not low cut).

I was confused about this too when I started my last job. Wear black trousers with a nice blouse the first day to be safe and see what everyone else is wearing, you can't go wrong with those and thats generally what they mean. Jeans are definitely not smart casual they're a big no no.

You could wear really nice jeans & good boots with a dressy top that can be smart casual aswell in my opinion , if you are wearing black trousers team them up with a nice coloured jumper / top. :p

Smart Casual means you do not have to wear a formal business suit, but you still can't wear leisure or completely "don't give a **** I'm at my grannies" jeans and casual t-shirts /trainers etc. You still have to make some kind of effort. Try some nice trousers and a sweater /shirt, whatever, it basically means, scrub up, without having to wear a suit.

PS congratulations to OP on getting a new job, great to hear good news today for a change!!

i know, delighted! seem to be only one of buddies gettin a job rather than loosing so its all good. So it means strictly no jeans or sneakers etc?
Black pants, shirt and shoes so without the noose alright?

Trousers/slacks with a shirt/jumper, you probably don't have to wear a tie. Don't worry, rather be over-dressed than under-dressed on a first day, it makes a better impression in my opinion.

T-shirts are a bit too casual. Jeans and runners are a BIG no-no.

You'll know after a few days what okay from what everyone else is wearing.

Congrats on the job by the way!
