I'm planning to get the USIT canada visa and move over for a year around April... just trying to dedide where to go! I have zero french, so I'm ruling out Montreal and it's pretty much between Vancouver and Toronto. I've heard so many great things about Vancouver, but I LOVE Chicago, and have lots of friends there, and Toronto is so much closer.
Has anyone spent time in either city? Any suggestions?
Also, I'm going on my own and wondering if it's easy to meet people there?(As in Canadians, moreso than other Irish)

    Thanks!

From my experience i'd say Toronto. Although vancouver was good i prefered Toronto mainly for the nightlife. Vancouvers isn't the best. and the weather isn't that great there either. It gets dark early and it was nearly always gloomy and raining. I found Vancouver to be like california without the constant sunny weather, Toronto to be like Chicago or Atlanta or something and Montreal was like a European city. Canadians are friendly. I found Vancouver to have more friendly people than Toronto but you'll meet plenty of Canadians in either place.

Toronto is amazing, the people are so laid back & friendly for such a big city, the weather was great for the whole of last summer, and the nightlife's brilliant!

Vancouver is a class city. It rains a fair amount in winter, but this translates to snow on the nearby slopes. The slopes are only 30 mins away, and it's cheap for a pass.
Pubs aren't as good as home, but there's some excellent ones. Restaurants are known to be some of the best in North America.
Never been to Toronto, but the winter looks very bleak there, extremely cold. Here it's only about 2 degrees colder than home.
