Laptop Screen Problem

Hiya lads, having a bit of a problem with my new laptop. I've only had it a week and a half and the screen doesn't seem to be working. I was using it fine one night, and had to leave for a while so closed the screen down. When I opened it back up the screen just stays blank (like its turned off). Have tried shutting the PC down, and turning it back on (solves 99% of problems doesn't it!!) but with no joy. When I do this a few of the led's etc come on like its starting up, but still no display on the screen. Any idea's what it might be? Its a Packard Bell Easynote (MB88/89 i think is the exact model). I haven't dropped it or anything like that, its just been sitting on my table, so I'm at a loss as to how anything could have happened so soon after buying it!!

Thanks in advance for any advice

How did you power down? By pressing the power button? If this is vista it will only hibernate your laptop. Just remove the battery and put it back in and see what happens... worth a try. If not then i'd just bring it back if it's only a week or so old

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds solid to make sure its completely off,try a cold start, leave the machine off (even go as far as to remove battery) if after all this it doesnt turn on and work straigt away, return it to where you bought it!

My daughter's got a Sony VGN-AR11B, out of warranty, of course. A few days ago, a 3 inch wide white vertical band appeared on the righthand-side of the screen. I'm hoping that there is a simple solution as the 17inch screen, motherboard etc would cost an arm and a leg to replace. I'm guilt-ridden because I recommended that she buy it in the first place.
