    POWERPLAY GOLF COMES TO IRELAND

Powerscourt Golf Club in Enniskerry Co. Wicklow is staging Ireland’s first ever PowerPlay Golf Event on Monday January 28th.

The event will take place on the club’s East Course, designed by past Walker Cup Captain and creator of PowerPlay Golf Peter McEvoy OBE, and will see the launch of this exciting new form of golf in Ireland.

PowerPlay Golf which launched in the UK to great acclaim in 2007 and is scheduled to roll out in 42 countries, is described by many as ‘golf’s version of Twenty20 cricket’.

Played over 9-holes, it has been widely praised by top pro golfers, golf writers, golf course owners and celebrities alike as creating exciting new challenges for lovers of the ancient game of golf.

Each green in a game of PowerPlay Golf has two flags, rather than one. Players on a ‘PowerPlay’ aim for the Black Flag, the harder of the two, with extra points as a reward for birdies or better. The ‘risk-and-reward’ format heightens tension, and makes golfers think harder about their shots.

Bernard Gibbons, Director of Golf at Powerscourt, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the venue to launch this fantastic new format of the game. PowerPlay Golf is set to take the golfing world by storm. It’s great fun, but very competitive, too, so everyone’s going to really enjoy themselves!”

Powerplay Golf is going to revolutionise the game in Ireland and across the world. To play the game is a huge amount of fun, it is simple, exciting and brings something to the game it has needed for a long time - spice!

It is played over 9 holes instead of 18, so it is cheaper to play, quicker to play and makes the game more accessible - particularly to those who just can't afford to spend 5 or 6 hours on a game of golf at the weekend.

Currently there are 4 official venues where PowerPlay will be available. Powerscourt Golf Club in Co. Wicklow, Carton House Golf Club in Co. Kildare, Faithlegg Golf Club in Co. Waterford, and Castle Dargan Golf Club in Co. Sligo. By the end of 2008 it is anticipated that there will be almost 100 official venues throughout Ireland.

This April will see the introduction of a world ranking system, like the Tour "Order of Merit", which will see registered golfers being awarded points or virtual dollars every time they play PowerPlay. This will provide the opportunity to compete in a world league table as well as set up your own tables for friends/family/company's/societies. Register online at www.powerplay-golf.com
