Year Out Work - Tax

    Hi all,

Within the next week or so I'm starting a new job in Dubllin as the second part of my years work experience. I'm taking a considerable cut in wages but its the perfect job and I'd be a fool not to take it. To make it worse, last year I had sufficient tax credits for the remainder of the year after I started. This year I have to start paying some tax (relatively little I know), but coupled with the cost of rent, money will be scarce. I understand I will be able to claim back the tax on my wages in September when I finish. Will I get all back and how do I go about this? Is there any way in which I can claim tax relief on my rental or travel? If so will I have to rent through a legitimate tax paying agency or the like?

Asfaik you will get any PAYE back that you have paid in September, Well whatever you are intitled to, however you will not get the PRSI back which you have paid.

You are entitled to rent relief, but I do not know how you would go about claiming it, no doubt someone will come along and tell you.

For travel you can't claim anything back but you could look into getting a tax saver ticket, they work out about 40% cheaper but I think (not sure) you need to buy it for the year.

    Hope this helps

I think you need to fill out Form 12 at the end of the year. The government then send you a cheque with what you're owed (or request money from you if you owe them any :) )
