    Hi,

downloaded the demo and it rocks. i love burnout games in general and this doesn't disappoint.

one question. is there split screen multiplayer in the full game?

Not sure about that, there usually is in Burnout games but this new one is a lot different in many ways. I'd say it's likely though (in my non-expert opinion!)

whats the release date on this bad boy?

February as far as I know! The demo is great online!

yeah that game is class. i would hope they will have a split screen option cause its a great craic playing against mates

This generation there's been a definite shift away from split screen in favour of purely online multiplayer (the cynic in me says thats because it means they sell more games), but IMO it would be a crime against humanity not to include split screen and a Crash mode in this game. Much drunken fun.

i have to agree with you about the lack of split screen games. when i was getting my PS3 i wanted to get one multiplayer game for myself and my mates. i thought Motorstorm would have been great but alas no split screen. so i ended up getting NFS Pro Street. what a waste...

I have to say, after playing the Burnout demo, it was the online system that really grabbed my attention. It was something I have never seen before and something, Im sure, many developers will take note of. Apparently Criterion made the online system the way it is as result of research into the last game where players spent double the amount of time in the lobbies than actually playing the game. I can see this type of system being implemented into alot of games in the future. I would imagine it would work particularily well with games like GTA.

I heard they got rid of crach mode in this game? Would be an absolute crime if they did because it was always my favourite part of the game.

crash mode was the one thing i absolutely hated in burnout, delighted its gone

I too was a big fan of the Crash Mode and will be sad if it is gone.

this is available in shops friday right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

    apparently so

No crash breaker mode? That'd suck ass quite a bit if its true.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

why did everyone like that? i cant get me head around it. i thought it was bloody rubbish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭nedd

ah the crash mode was great. it seems like its total madness and you have no control over what happens, but after a couple of go's on a certain junction you start to know where the big money is. takes practice to be able to get over $10M worth of damage.

one of the reasons Burnout is such a great game is they dont worry if the physics are 100% and real cars probably cant go that fast and survive that many crashes. but who cares? its a great feeling when you feel a fit coming on because you have been turbo-ing for so long your eyes are sore :)

Crash is still in there in some manner- called Showtime. No split screen apparently. Multiplayer is online only. Crap in my view, a lot of games are going this way and it's not the way forward.

    Never a truer word spoken.

A gang of mates, loads of drink and 4-player splitsceen with a great multiplayer game will always beat any online experience. Sure even when I play online I never do it on my own but take turns with my brother and friends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭nedd

have to agree that the multiplayer on most games is too limited to only allow on-line.

you would think that split screen would be even more popular now what with the 30-40 inch tv screens and HD. i remember playing racing split screen on a 14 inch portable and it was a nightmare. now that i have a big tv with HD i dont get the chance to play multiplayer games with mates at all. (apart from every game i have for the wii)

i think leaving the split screen from racing games is one of the worst ideas ever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

Agreed about the split screen. Not using it is a load of bollocks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,888 ✭✭✭AtomicHorror

If they've any sense they'll add a split screen version with an update.

The beers n' video games evening is a favorite of mine from the PS2 days and the PS3 is just not helping me out here.

I think one of the worst offenders is Halo 3. The halo games haven't been all they are made out to be but the co-op splitscreen has always been a good blast. In Halo 3 the viewing screen has been severely reduced with Black borders that I haven't seen the likes of since the awful Squaresoft PS2 PAL conversions. The screen size is so small that the game is unplayable. This is pretty low in a game where a good co-op game is expected.

The lack of split screen in games nowadays is an even bigger sham and backwards step than Sony leaving the rumble out of the PS3 pad.

Warhawk does 4-way split screen, even combined with online on some servers. That kinda versatility is what I like to see.

Actually thats something Halo 3 does do rather nicely as well.

Don't think I'll end up picking this up. I just downloaded Burnout 3 from the XBox Originals section on XBox Live. Lovely crash mode, and split screen racing for the win. This will keep me happy instead.

+1 For voting with the wallet here. Won't be buying it unless/until theres split-screen. This was my introduction to burnout, but I'l probably go pick up one of the older ones now (60GB ftw).

On another note, if anyone was wondering about the rally cars you see online.. I wondered for the damndest time how people got them, tried to do everything possible in the demo and couldn't unlock it. Then I tried the Japanese version of the demo and lo and behold its from that. So if you want it, get the Jap version! Its an awesome car..

Although this is all pretty irrelevant now as I'd guess online support will be removed from the demo now that the full game is out!

so has anyone got this yet? whats the verdict?

goin to get it now in a few minutes, shall inform yis when ive played it

Im gettin it soon when I finish work. Read this review over at AV Fourms:
Had a few hours on this last night and must admit if I didn't have to get up for work I'd still be playing now

I spent most of the time just driving around enjoying the scenery and going for the odd billboard or super jump here and there.

Graphically the game is stunning to look at, the amount of detail in the scenery is amazing and it certainly flies along at breakneck speed, and all with zero load times.

This is the ultimate Burnout as far as I'm concerned, not had enough time on it yet but from what little time I've had makes me want to go back for more.

worryingly enough, soon as you turn it on theres an update to be installed lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

That is a good thing surely

i generally find it worrying, it points at a rushed release if theres a 0 day patch

The online component with instant head to head takes the place of split-screen play.

How much is this game costing in shops. I see Smyths are selling it for €69.99 which imo is theft.

Could still sell it though, for better than he'd get trading it in too, probably

A tenner in Smyths with 2 games traded in once those games have a value of 15 blips each on trade or more, rifling through my collection as we speak!

Not too bothered by that. I haven't traded in a game since Gamestop tried to arse rape me all those years ago.

i wont shop in gamestop unless its to trade 2 games in for a new one, theyre bloody robbers

I'd definitely recommend videogamesplus.ca, think that's the first time that I've ever preordered a game online and it has arrived on the release date (unless you count the Chinese version of PGR4 that I got a week early:p)

Played for about 90 minutes so far and I'm loving it.
First impressions weren't great, couldn't help feeling "if it aint broke, why fix it?"
After you get used to the lack of checking, it actually starts to feel like a better game than revenge ever was.
The lack of crash mode is a bit crap, but showtime is a decent enough replacement, especially the fact that you can pull it off any time you want...
Takedowns are also incredibly satisfying due to the weightier feeling cars, and crashes are almost stomach churning... fantastic!:p
Looking forward to spending some more quality time with it over the weekend.

Has anybody else had problems updating it? it keeps freezing at 5% for me so I've just skipped the update completely. This seems to happen with every update on the day of release, so I guess I'll just try it again tonight...
