This might be a stupid question. But is there any other way to check the time on your PS3 other than going to time and date settings? Thanks

Nope. It's one of the complaints I've seen people post online about. They want to be able to see the date/time on the main screen. Maybe we'll see it in a future firmware update.

Thanks man, I thought it was me just missing something in the settings. I know its not a big problem, but it seems like a no brainer that this should have been included since day 1.
