    Hi All
I am currently looking to have a colour tattoo removed. It’s a small dolphin, it has a black outline and a blue/green filling in three waves and I have it about 13 years. Great idea when you young but not so great now. I hate it! I have done some extensive research on this and have decided to go with Advanced Cosmetic Surgery in Dublin (only place that does colour removal) with the lazer (Q-switched) to have it removed. I had my consultation with them before Christmas. Found the nurse/specialist very informative and helpful. She put my mind at ease regarding scaring and other questions I had. She has advised me that it is going to take 14 sessions of which I can have each one 4-6 weeks apart. I was surprised that it would take that long as my tattoo is only very small, would fit into 2 sq inches. Still she did say that it may take less sessions and depends how satisfied I am with the fading/removal. I will be travelling to Dublin and to my dismay the nurse/specialist will not be working on Saturdays for 2008 as she was for 2007.
I was wondering has anyone had a tattoo removed this way or with Advanced Cosmetic Surgery? I am keen to hear other peoples experiences of tattoo removal.

Sorry but I cannot help you in your quest, however I would like to know why you want it removed so much? I know you say you hate it, but is it the design of the tattoo you hate or the fact that it is a tattoo? Is it prominently displayed?

How come you have changed from liking tattoos to disliking tattoos?

I'm just being curious so I hope you don't mind! I seem to be your opposite in so far as I wanted a tattoo when I was young but waited until I was 36 to get it done. It's on my shoulder/upper arm so not prominent. It's only a tattoo.....

There are other places that do tattoo removal. Check with www.laserway.ie
Tattoo removal can leave an outline if the original tattoo due to the pigment being destroyed. You need to see examples of work that the nurse/technician has already performed.

Have you thought about a cover up? If it is the design and the condition of the tattoo that you want rid off, a cover would be cheaper, less painful and could be done quicker. The problem with a cover up is that you need to locate a very good coverup artist and you may need a few sessions on the tattoo to cover the original tattoo properly. This can be out of the frying pan into the fire if you do not choose a good enough artist though.

I wanted to get a few tattoo's lasered so they could be lightened for a cover up. I went for a consultation with a Laser clinic but was not happy with the technicians answers to some of my questions so have decided against it.

Hi I have just started my first laser treatment on my tattoo on my back in Galway in Advance Cosmetic Surgery. They told me that it would take 6-8 treatments. I have black, blue and yellow in it and they said that the black will be removed and that the other colors should fade. Its 150 euros a go and only takes 3 minutes. Hopefully it will work but at the mo its all blistered and red so a bit apprehensive..

getting a tatoo on my arm removed in cork at a beaticans in academy street. im on my 6th session and will need another 4 or more.it starts off at 100 a go then goes down to 75 a go from the third. the black is the easiest and goes almost on the second go but then your left with a blobs of colour which looks worse than the original tatoo.
my sister in london go a dolphin removed from her arm it sounds like the same size as yours and she had 10 sessions. you can see a few tiny blue dots now but you would have to be looking for them otherwise its as good as new.
it is painful-ten times worse than getting the actual tatoo but only lasts a few minutes then your skin will be hard and blistered for about a week. still i think its worth it. i hated my tatoo towards the end esp when i was getting dressed up or going to weddings etc. just looks so tacky. there were a few brides to be getting theirs done while i was there actually.
i was stupid to get it on my arm where its hard to hide but when i was seventeen i thought it was cool now im 32. maby they just go out of fashion or i didnt shop around enough. ive seen some beautiful tatoos on this forum though but never again.

    Hi all
Thanks for all the advice. I have finally taken the plunge and had my first laser treatment session with Advanced Cosmetic Surgery in Galway. It hurt like hell. But thank god my tattoo is small. It only lasted a minute. It is going to cost €100 a session. I may need 6ish sessions depending on how much it fades. Costly and painful to remove and it only cost me £20 GBP to get it done 13 years ago.
Like you, Indina Jones I am 32 and I feel I have out grown my tattoo and feel I cant hide it and dont wear any clothes that would show it. Especially at weddings where all dress are strappy or strappless.
The lady in ACS is lovely, helpful and professional. I felt very comfortable with her. After my treatment I had to use Aloe Vera on it for a few days and then moisturise every day since as they cannot treat the tattoo if its dry or the skin is broken. My next session is early April and I am looking forward to it. Not to the pain but to the one step closer to it being removed or very faded which ever it will be. Since my tattoo on my back I cant see it closely however my boyfriend has assured me that there is fading and some spots of clear skin. Roll on being tattoo free
