Celtic animal designs

    Hi guys,

Begging bowl in hand I'm afraid :). I'm finally put time aside to build my personal website. I've decided on a Celtic theme for it and have designed a very nice Celtic knot image as background for part of it. To continue the theme I was hoping to use stylised animal motifs in the Celtic style as thumbnails for the various areas of the site and I've hit a road block. My own skills are insufficient to draw these images and the only ones I can find on the web are either of extremely poor quality, badly colored or extremely expensive. Does anyone know where I can get good quality free (or very reasonably priced) images in the style mentionned??

    Thanks in advance
    -RD

I have a few books that I bought in the Book of Kells shop that have these kinds of things in them.

See www.gillmacmillan.ie and search for "celtic" in the titles. I have two from the "Design Source Book" series (Celtic Designs and Celtic Knotwork Designs) that according to the book are free to use for "graphic or arts projects" (not sure about websites though). They aren't coloured either, but that that shouldn't be too difficult to do with the "fill tool" in any graphics package once you've scanned them in. You can order the books online via the website.

Also "Celtic Decorative Art, A Living Tradition" by Deborah O'Brien www.obrien.ie, although they are all copyrighted by her unfortunately.
