On One particular job it wasn’t an attic conversion but a music room 100mm x 50mm stud work 2.5mts high. Counter battened all internal voids with 50mm x 20mm timber inserts installed 50mm acoustic Rock wool applied two 12.5 Lafarge dB boards to both sides of timber inserts which brought us out to 100mm stud work finished off with 12.5mm fire check pasture board. Doors and frames were good quality hardwood one hour rated, its important have no gaps and where timbers had to be fixed to surrounding block work and timberwork a sound insulator was applied to these faces
Another Customer happy is a job well done

Installing 18mm plywood or osb sub structural flooring first [before partitions] which are laid on top of newly installed joists work which have 6mm acoustic tape applied voids in joist work are filled with 2 x 50mm acoustic rock wool with the underside of the ceiling fitted with another 12.5 fire check slab board

If your fitting a carpet in the attic loft area use a good quality sound proof underlay
This also goes when fitting floating structured finished timber flooring

There is one problem with using a lot of sound proofing material between floors and it’s that it reduced the transfer of heat from the lower portion of the house to the attic space some people prefer not to use it for this reason while others prefer to install radiators in these spaces and keep the soundproofing
    Hope this helps jbcford
