I got some in Homebase in Longford, I would assume that an offer like this would be the same in all Homebase stores.

I got some in sligo before the christmas and this offer applied. It was mentioned before in bargin alerts but its a good offer so worth mentioning again.

It's 2 for the price of 1 in Homebase at Nutgrove (Dublin) and the per unit price is 1.99... well that was the situation two weeks ago anyway. Anyone who lives near the border, they're very cheap in Ikea.

    they're very cheap in Ikea.

There is a lot of cheap unbranded China manufactured CFLs floating around and most aren't worth buying, I'm not saying that the Ikea ones are c*@p but more than likely they wouldn't be great. The ones in Homebase are made by Philips, Philips lighting is the second biggest lighting manufacturer in the world.

The Ikea ones are excellent, come in a wider variety of styles and wattages than the Philips and are cheaper. The ones I have at home have lasted as long as any "branded" cfl.

Needless to say Philips make CFLs in China as well:

Good to know that, I used to live across the pond, I've found Ikea a bit hit and miss quality wise.

Of course, But they would be made to Philips quality standards. Unbranded ones probably don't even get tested.

To all looking at N-Cards..... Sky2k are a bit stupid.. they've put 16gb and 8gb...

    <nerdgasm>
There are 8 bits in a 1 Byte.
The cards are labelled 8g and 16g by the company who makes them. This means that the 8g one is 1gb. The 16g one is 2gb.
They are cheaper to buy from www.dealextreme.com (free delivery), but they only have the 1gb one available.

This is a common thing with the energy saving bulbs.. they always turn on a little lower when they are not warmed up, but they do get as bright after 30mins or so.

What type of bulbs are they? Are they just standard types or do they have bulbs to fit ceiling recesses? I've found the latter type impossible to get.

Just normal screw in and bayonet. They sell the ones you want up in Ikea in Belfast, along with chandelier candle ones, spots etc.

Will i be called an environment nazi if i point out that normal tesco light bulbs are around €0.47c.

Going on the basis of a CFL working 5 times as long (I think they say up to 8 but achieving 8 is unlikely) the net cost of using those bulbs would be nearly 2.50 for the same length as 1 euro for these ones. You also save on your electricity bill.

Some stuff on Pat Kenny RTE Radio 1 Monday and Tuesday this week about CFL bulbs.

Worth a listen to the contribution on Tuesday starts at 1:06:30 into the programme. Sorry - not sure how to provide the link but its available for 7 days I think on the RTE site.
