just a simple question guys. I am thinking of installing xp or vista through parallels. Will i have to install an anti virus programme on windows. I am not going to use windows to surf the net so i am not going to open internet explorer. But if i am online with safari does that mean xp or vista is also connected and susceptible to infection.

    Thanks

If your PC is connected to the net, you need anti-virus. You don't have to browse to get a virus. Simply having unprotected Windows makes you a target.

Do yourself a favour and stick with XP.

    It's a bit like unprotected sex . . . better safe than sorry. ;)

Only if Parallels is running in the background. It's possible to disable networking in Parallel so the Windows environment can't contact the 'net.

Download and install AVG to be on the safe side, its free and painless: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/28415/lng/us/tpl/v5

How so? I've been using it for years without a problem. It does the job and its not a hog, compared to Norton.

I'd use XP on it. If the virtual machine doesn't have access to the net then you don't really need AV.

Thanks for all the replies. Just one more question do you think it would be worthwhile upgrading to 2gb ram especially with me maybe going to run xp along leopard. I saw some threads recommending to buy from crucial. What do you think ?

The more RAM, the merrier IMO. I'd suggest you get some more :)

and crucial are good to get it from, providing you can fit it (not sure what mac you have, but it's not that hard)
