I am looking to purchase a loptop with the following spec.

The Machine is a Dell Inspiron.

    Core 2, T7700 2.4GHz, 800, 4M
3.0GB Memory Dual channel 667 MHz
    160GB, 7200 RPM Hard drive
    NVIDIA 8600M GT Graphics card
    17" WUXGA, True Life LCD
    Windows Vista Home Premium OS

Will this spec. handle most of todays games and cover me for a bit of future proofing or should I change anything?

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Spec wise its grand apart from the Grpahics card (which isn't bad by any stretch) but isn't completely "future" proof. Theres a review of the card here and what it can do

Still though its a nice machine if you want bleeding edge gaming, maybe a bumo in the graphics department, but I have a feeling that it would suit you fine.

    Thanks for your help MAJIKTRIPP.

Unfortunately DELL only supply this card with the system.

Maybe I will upgrade the card in the future. Not sure if it is possible on this laptop but as you say, the system should be enough for my needs.

    Cheers.

Unfortunately it is very hard if not impossible to upgrade the graphics card in a laptop.

2.0ghz is the best price/performance ratio, upgrading to 2.4ghz for €289 is madness,3gb is nice but dell charge you well over the odds to upgrade from 2gb to 3gb just not worth it either, minimal performance increase for huge price.....

Best thing to do with laptops is to buy a fairly good one for under a grand and then sell it on again to buy a new one instead of upgrading it....You could buy the below one for €766 and sell it on again in a year for €400 or so and buy a new one with quad core,9600gt etc for €766 again this time next year or two....
