Going to US - what would you not come back without?

Taking a trip to the US next week, and plan on picking up a few PS3 games (have read they start at $40 in some stores :D). Anyway - have owned Assasin's Creed, NFS Prostreet, FIFA 08 and Tiger Woods 08 up to now. Considering picking up Madden NFL 08, COD4 and possibly Drake's Fortune or the something similar.

Anyone got any suggestions of what you definitely wouldn't come home without?

Also anyone know if the new controller version with the rumble is available over there yet? Went for a package with 1 controller with the hope of picking one of these up in the US.

    Madden and COD4.

I picked up Madden in NYC in Sept. and i'm hooked, not only on the game but on NFL. It was my first Madden game.

Scarlett Johansson..........failing that, Drake's Fortune is very very good, if a bit short. I'm playing Jericho at the moment which is much better than the reviews made out.

Download only. Being in NY doesn't matter since we can't buy from the US store regardless of our location.

    Unless you have a Mastercard.

I'd say it's probably US address restricted, like on iTunes. Maybe if he brought the PS3 over and borrowed a US Mastercard to attach to a spoofed US PlayStation Store account... but is it worth it for a $10 game that'll be in the EU store in a few weeks? Damn thing isn't even getting good reviews.

if ya create a us acc on the ps3 ya can buy stuff off the us store no matter where ur cc is from

Well that's interesting- I figured they'd try and make it as awkward as possible. I think though that even setting up the spoofed US account is a TOS violation (as you have to lie about your location) so I'm guessing buying stuff is something Sony won't be too happy about. Whether they do anything about it is another matter.

i dont think they do anything about it i havent tried it myself but know others that have and nothin happened

Afraid not, tried it with my Mastercard and it didn't work. It checks the address of the credit card account.

You can still download free stuff from the US Store but thats it.

That's what I'd assumed. Shame really. Can't see why they need to separate the stores. Releases and promotion I guess...

Exactly what I was thinking. Why have a region-split Store anyway? Why not have the same Store for everyone?

Does anyone care to explain, what is region free on the new gens? (inc wii)

Buy a game in Japan and it will work here or anywhere for that matter.

Back on topic, get UT3, its available over there but won't be out here til March

Wii is region locked, so you can only play a game on your Wii that has been bought in the same region.
Quite a lot of the games on the 360 are region locked like the Wii, but a fair few of them are region free (you can buy a game from the US/Japan/Asia and play it on your 360 that was bought over here)
The PS3 is the best of the bunch and seems to be totally region free

I've bought a bunch of things from the US store with my AIB Mastercard by using a fake American address.

They don't check the address on anything under €20 or something like that. Served me well buying Everyday Shooter and various other things.

Maybe they've changed it recently though.

Did you have that card set up on your European account as well? Maybe that's it.

    Hi MGrah,

Not meaning to hi-jack your post, but my Irish PS3 will not play my US (Region 1) DVD's - can anyone help me, I made my DVD recorder Region free, just not sure about tackling the PS3, any advice would be much appreciated.

Enjoy your stay across the pond, it's a great experience! ;)

Sorry Wolfman, An EU PS3 will only play Region 2 DVDs and any Region Free DVD's. The same with Blu-Ray. Currently there's no region hack for the PS3 and it's unlikely there'll be one.
