Have a look at cat rescue groups like cataid. I got mine there, and they (or similar) operate all over the country. Like you i wanted a grey or white and i got her. And she is sooooo beautiful!

I was home in Mayo over the Christmas and saw an article in the freebie paper about this group - they would be the best people to talk to.

    MAYO CAT RESCUE
Mayo Cat Rescue is a volunteer run non-profit organisation, rescuing unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens in Co. Mayo. They rely solely on public help, and donations of cat food, litter and of course money. They also offer discount vouchers worth 50% off the cost of spaying/neutering to cat owners in Co. Mayo, to help reduce the amount of unwanted cats and kittens in the future.

Really?? No way, the fecking pounds are crawling with puppies, I just assumed the cat places would be the same. Although it's good news really isn't it?

We're like birds of a feather, I wanted a grey for the same reason. I ended up going up for her and coming back with her and her brother :D

They have to be careful though. We're the same with our rescue dogs. Home checks and everything need to be done. I know it can seem frustrating at the time but isn't it nice that it's protecting the cat, even at the risk of making it harder to find a home for her.

Cats don't usually have kittens in the winter months - so that's why there are so few in shelters/rescue centers at the moment. Come springtime, there'll be hundreds (unfortunately) of unwanted kittens. You may have to be patient! :)

    Good luck with it!

Try KittenAdoption, but 6-8 weeks is much to young for adopting a single kitten, 12 weeks would be better.

6-8 weeks is much too young to separate a kitten from her mother; especially since the kitten will still be nursing at that stage and learning how to clean herself etc. You can always find the cat at that age and agree to take her at 10-14 weeks. In any case, cats are not exactly trainable...but if you are kind to them and do simple things like put the cat on her scratching post every single time she is clawing at something you'll find that by 4 or 5 months of age she will be alright. The only way to 'train' cats is to respect them, be kind to them, and give them lots of love. Then they'll give you exactly the same in return.

its so much better gettin them this young because they learn to trust you better and have no bad habits, so i might stay away from the rescue shelters. they few kittens i did see were very wild and unfriendly, i think this was because they were surrounded by other cats and dogs

I think its definitely easier when the kitten has been reared by a cat mother rather than hand reared by humans, but you really should leave the kitten with its mother until it is at least 10 weeks. Kittens need to learn from their mothers about grooming and socialisation.

And I just want to say - I got 2 kittens from a rescue place, and they are great! They were a bit shy with me for about the first 2 days, but I just left them alone to get used to the change of home, and now they are two cuddle-monsters and follow me everywhere. Don't rule out the shelters!

Anyway, I'm sure you will find the right little kitten for you eventually. (But try not to take a 6 week old!)

sure it needs to be grey? the vet clinic where i work (athlone) has three lovely kittens (14 weeks give or take) and their mother. two kittens (1m and 1f) and the mother are mostly black with white markings and the other kitten (m) is a grey/brown tabby with white socks and chest. they're all tame and love being handled (lol, a rarity!) would need to now if you're interested shortly though - my boss informs me about once an hour that "we are not a charity" so i'm not sure how much longer he'll tolerate this batch of hungry boarders!
