    Hey folks,

I sent in an application to the Medical Reserves in Galway, in early October and have heard nothing back from them. I've phoned them many many times since october but there's never anyone there at the office.

A friend of mine who I applied with asked some friends of his about the different corps, they said the only two corps which are actually active are the Infantry and the Engineers. One was in Supply and Transport but has been to the barracks once since he joined.

The two of us are planning on applying to a different corps.

I was wondering if anyone here could outline what the two corps would do. I know the very basics but maybe someone with experience here could give me some help?

    Thanks

Im in the Infantry in a Support Coy, dont be worried about the "delay" this is normal especially in Dec/Jan, im only starting this years ARP's in the next few weeks. ARP's mean Annual Range Practice. I dont know how it is countrywide but my Unit dont do much marching this year now we are more concentrated on ARP's, and more Courses etc.

Supply And Transport ( S&T ) is all to do with Military Driving such as the Trucks, its all good but there are alot more goings on in Mellows, have you asked about joining the Military Police ( MP's ) or Artillery?

    Is Mellows Dun Ui Mhaolisa?

Looking on the Reserves section of the Army website, numbers are given for the Infantry and Engineers in Galway. I figured that they;d be the important ones seeing as they have dedicated numbers.

Military Police are a possibilty but I doubt I'd be for the Artillery. My friends father was in that corps in the PDF and while it sounds interesting and all, his description of the artillery doesnt make it sound like my thing.

    *later addition*

I was in the barracks today and met the guy from Transport RDF. Lovely guy and listening to him convinced me well enough.

Can anyone here tell me how the Military Driving Licence works? I'm aware it takes a long time to get.

To get your AF154, you have to pass module one which is the rules of the road and drivers admin What to do at the POL and accident protocol etc. That's normally about a week in the class room and then when you pass that you will be taken out to the cars to do maybe about a month of driving and then get tested.

That's how it works with the PDF any way. I'm not too sure as to how it works with the RDF.

    Thanks.

    One final question:

are there any books or pamphlets that give an outline or advice to boot camp?

I know I'll learn when I get there but I wouldnt mind starting now to get a heads up while I'm in a low stress environment.

There are no books or pamphlets that I would suggest reading, I suppose the beauty of recruit training is seeing how people react under pressure.

Thought S&T has been superseded by Log Support Bn ?

Yup, S&T has been replaced by the Transport Corps which falls under command of a Logistics Bn.
