Fifa 2008: worth a purchase?

    Afternoon all,

I haven't played a Fifa game since 2003 came out on the Gamecube and since then I've been playing the vastly superior (imo) pro evo series. The thing is I believe Fifa is supposed to be pretty decent this year whereas the new pro evo is a bit dodgey (going by opinions on the pro evo board it certainly seems 50/50). I've also been playing pro evo on the PC with a PS2 controller and I'd like to buy a footie game that I can play in the comfort of my sitting room on my 36" TV. I'm also aware that pro evo is due out on the Wii soon but I'm not sure how that's gonna turn out tbh (when is it actually due does anyone know?).
The problem is I can't make my mind up as I'm a little wary of the Fifa games but at the same time I'm also considering getting both!

So, without any bias towards either series if possible, what do you all think of the new Fifa on the Wii? Although I'd mainly be playing it offline is the online mode any use? How do the controls hold up etc?

    Cheers!

Got it as a present and its alright. I'm a Pro Evo fan and this is the best FIFA game I've played. Controls aren't exactly made for it (if you're used to "normal" football games)

Short pass using A button, Through ball with B button, Nunchuk controls player, Z to speed up. Chip pass/cross with A+B and shoot by flicking wii remote. A few other little controls (skill moves, chip shots) are done by a combination of bottuns/movements.

Played a few games online and they've all been tight, decent games.

as far as pro evo is concerned, ive looked it up and it looks really good, bit weird at the start im sure as you can tell players were to run in real time, much more of a team game, through balls, tricks everything looks like its going to be a great game and it is dur for release thr 11th of march aparantly! i think ill be waiting on that rather than getting fifa!

Hmm, I've been looking at some footage online and it didn't do a lot for me tbh. I think I might give it a miss; I bought an XPS PC last week and should have it by the end of the week. Might check out pro evo further during this week and pick it up for PC instead.

I know Konami are ment to have done a terrible job on ths year's PES but check out what they're doing for the Wii version here.

It looks awesome and if they manage to pull it off it could be the definitive PES on any console.

Yeah, I think I'll hold off and see what it is turns out like and keep playing 6 on the PC in the meantime.

I'd give FIFA 08 on the Wii a miss if I were you. I bought it as soon as it came out, played it for one week then got bored with it. It is basically a repackaged version of FIFA 07 for the PS2 without the depth (ie: no manager/career mode).

I think I'll get it for the 360 and maybe see if PES is good on the Wii
