    Hi all,

ok so ive decided that this is the year im going to shed most of my weight (well try to!) i currently weight 20stone. alot of this has went on since having my baby and becoming ill and depressed. I feel like I have finally got my life back together except for my weight. Im digusted with myself that I let myself get this fat. Ive decided to join unislim and started last wednesday which i met my leader who told me to take it in steps like half stones. I dont really know why im posting here, i guess im looking for some motaviation as none of my friends are overweight and i feel that i cant talk to them about this. Is there anyone else around trying to loose a good bit of weight? Have you any tips for keeping on track? Anyone know any quick easy healthy meals I could eat? (work long hours and havent time to be cooking in kitchen!) I lost 2stone over a year ago so know I can do it i just have to keep myself on track. I'm aiming to get to 15stone and take it from there. Thanks for reading this. :)

Best of luck with it all.

I'm sure you'll do fine, just eat right and get some exercise and slowly but surely you'll get there.

Best first steps are always to cut out the junk food, anything processed, stuff with sugar in it etc. For somebody who is very overweight just doing this will show results in no time.

It know it must be tough with long work hrs and a baby to get regular exercise in but it's worth it. It will speed up the weight loss and make you feel a lot better.

As for quick easy meals, there are tons, grill a chicken breast or some fish and have it with a salad or some steamed green veg - 15mins start to finish. Try not to snack on carbs like breakfast cereals etc.

Let us know how are getting on, if you have specific questions post em up, people are more than willing to help. Also, you may find it useful to keep a food diary over the Diet & Nutrition Forum. Again good luck with it all!

Best of luck with it wanabee.
I think taking it in stages is great advice. Don't worry about 15 stone yet. Make 19 and a half your first target.

Every great journey begins with one step.

If you are 20 stone and start eating good food and cutting out all crap you will start losing fat within the first week or 10 days. This will get and keep you motivated and there will be no stopping you! Check out the stickies at the top of the forum too, great advice there.

    Hi guys,

thanks for the replys. Ive decided to quit work and go part time 3days a week so i can get out walking during the day and spend more time with my child. I have a treadmill at home aswell so will use that to. I went for walk 1st thing this morning for 25mins fast speed god i was wrecked! Before when I was loosing weight I was able to walk for an hour at very fast speed and be fine. I want to get myself back there again. Even if I ran up the stairs id be out of breath! I know it will take time! Im gonna write what i was eaten here and what im going to eat now instead if anyone has any thoughts on it please comment or any different ideas for me it would be great.

    Before

    No breakfast.
1.30 sandwich usually ham&cheese packet crisps crunch corner or choc yoghurt. bottle of coke.Might have something else during the day aswell like a chocolat bar.
6.30ish dinner- would usually consist of chicken/pork/ veg mashed potatoes. burger on its own no buns with like beans/spagetti hopes mashed potatoe. pasta with some kind of stir in sauce.waffles/fried egg.chips done in chipper. sweet and sour chicken sometimes when time to make! spag bol also when time to make! I will always have some ready made meal in the freezer.
would snack then most evenings maybe packet of crisps, couple biscuits, toast with butter and jam, rice crispies.

    Now
8.30 breakfast special k/rice crispies/cornflakes/porridge I dont know which is best if any? slice of toast brown bread.

    10.30/11 banana/apple or a smoothie

Lunch time. pitta bread with ham/low fat cheese.
low fat yoghurt, havent a clue whats best yoghurt to be
eating? danone activia? no crisps. piece of fruit and bottle of
    water.

dinner. heres where i get stuck more or less the same stuff as before..will not wat as much potatoe and cut out the butter i put in them. have thrown out my chipper so no more fryed chips. over chips perhaps the odd time? pasta ? spag bol have already made a batch of my own and have it in freezer. meat veg and one potatoe. no salt i never add salt to anything anyway but i guess its all in the processed stuff anyway. no more ready made meals. unislim meal? havent tried them but are they just as bad? water with dinner.

I dont really drink tea or coffee. actually never anymore unless having a visitor or something with two sugars. gonna stop heaping sugar in everything. keep myself busy in the evenings..on my treadmill..tydying my really dirty house!

Ive no excuse to be eating the crao that i have. Im just pure lazy. My bf is great and has been really encouraging and will help me. He knows how unhappy i am and all that. But deep down i dont know as he's like the same height as me and 11stone..so how can he know what its like to be fat, having people looking at you, staring etc. wearing crappy clothes that look like tents. god im rambaling now. He is great though. Our child is great too she's nearly 3 and when i work my mum minds her for me in the evenings and she has really healthy food there. so now im quiting work i will be making healthy stuff for the two of us. My bf works long hrs to v demanding job. he has main dinner during the day so all he eats in the evening is a sandwich or something.

well better go and write down my points and stuff for today :) ps sorry if any spelling mistakes.

Way to go for getting started :)

A lot of people here know a lot more about these things than me but Your diet looks a like a big improvement so well done :)

It is so, so important to have a breakfast - porridge is by far the best cereal-type breakfast to have. It will keep you full for longer and pre-packed cereals are loaded with sugar. If you really need to have a cereal maybe try weetabix or shredded wheat - or whatever ones do not have sugar / salt listed on the ingredients!

If you want a yogurt for lunch try a natural one - i.e. one with no sugar. Danone actimel type ones are usually filled with processed stuff. I think Glenisk do a nice natural yogurt. A snack between lunch and dinner might be good - maybe a handful of nuts or some cold meat??

Meat, veg and one potato sounds fine (some people will say avoid the potatoes altogether but tbh you are making enough changes at the moment so if a potato in the evening initially makes things easier to stick to, i say go for it imho). There is always time to tweak things again / optimise them in a couple of months when the weightloss slows a bit. Don't go near the ready-meals even if they are diet ones (i.e. unislim, WW etc.) they are just rubbish usually.

Like i said I am sure people here will have a lot more useful stuff to add!

How about synchronising your eating with your bf? You should have a bigger meal earlier in the day, then a smaller one or sandwich / salad with your bf later.

Your new diet looks good. As mentioned, stay away from anything with processed sugar. That includes danone activia, actimels, etc - anything like that is mainly sugar and will add fat and keep you fat. Simply put:

Breakfast: should be porridge with a little honey or salt, or sugar free muesli with low-fat milk (but the porridge is a lot better). You could have eggs boiled or scrambled as well or instead of the porridge.

Mid morning have a natural plain yoghurt, and/or a handful of nuts like walnuts or almonds (make sure they aren't salted or roasted)

Lunch: make the pitta wholegrain. Lots of salad and/or veg with meat too (get protein in at every meal if you can).

Mid-afternoon: Have some more nuts of different variety with some plain yoghurt or some veg. Or even a tin of tuna.

Evening meal: I would stay away from pasta, rice, oven chips as they are carbo-loaded. You could have a small potato, but preferably have that for lunch instead. No harm having one in the evening too for the first while though.

Later evening: Again, only snack on the good stuff - nuts, plain yoghurt, etc.

    Drink lots of water.

If you follow the above (and just by doing it you will lose your taste for junk/sugar) and combine with your walking (make it brisk!) I can tell you you will be able to pick the fat up from the floor.

Fair play to you for doing something about it. There's nothing worse than feeling bad about yourself. You already sound pretty positive about the whole thing and being in unislim you'll have the healthy eating part covered.

The only advice I can give you is to remember that Rome wasn't built in a day, you will have weak moments but don't beat yourself up about it, just accept them as weak moments and move on. If you have a bad day you may feel like packing it all in, but don't let it beat you. You are doing this the healthy way so if you were to lose say 1 - 2lbs per week, you will be looking and feeling a hell of a lot better by the summer!

    Keep positive!!

    Howdy,

You could thing about setting up a log here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1010 if you wanted support etc and feedback on your food intake.

Sounds like you have a reasonable plan going at the moment and you'll learn as you go along and you'll find good healthy foods that you like to eat that are easy to make!

Good luck anyhow and keep us posted!

    Ali

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the great tips. My bf actually said that about main meal maybe I should have that during the day and then have something light when he home from work in the evening. gonna try that and see how it goes. I actually dont eat alot during the day the evenings are a killer!

What is the best type of nuts to get? where can you buy them?

I set up the log aswell so im gonna post there everyday. Have the internet at home and work so no excuses.

Also cleaned all my presses etc this evening threw out all the bad stuff..the amount of crap I did eat was unreal!

What should I be looking out for on food labels? like whats good and bad? I know some things say low fat but then there full of sugar? there so confusing (well to me anyway)

Oh and one other question which cheese to eat? I do love cheese at the mo im eating the laughing cow spreadable stuff..is there something better?

    :):):):):):):):)

    wannabe, PM sent!

    Seriously great work so far.

For nuts, I've found Holland & Barrett to be good for me. There's usually specials on as well so you can get them cheap enough.

I've heard silvered almonds were the best. Personally I prefer Brazils and Hazelnuts for taste.
What should I be looking out for on food labels? like whats good and bad? I know some things say low fat but then there full of sugar? there so confusing (well to me anyway)

If it's got a food label, it's not food! Extreme position I know but food labels are generally on processed stuff, and processed stuff has so much goodness taken out of it. Vegetables don't come with food labels do they?

You're bang on about the low fat/high carb (sugar) stuff. Someone once said fat made you fat, and it seemed to make sense to people adopted it. The best blanket advice I can give you is try to eat foods that have been processed as little as possible most of the time.

I can't give you specific advice about cheese but I would go with the same thought above. I would imagine that cheddar is processed less than laughing cow spreadable if you need a cheese fix.
