Direct entry to another course by graduate?

    Hi all,

Just helping my girlfriend with some of the slog work involved in getting a place on a course.

She's looking at doing Speech Therapy and Linguistics in TCD. Problem is, that she doesn't have the points - usual story, was 5 points off.

She's only 19, so she doesn't want to wait until 23 to become a mature student.

She's a graduate of trinners already - could that work in her favour if she was to try for a direct entry onto the course? Her degree has some same modules, Oral Anatomy etc...

Any advice or suggestions? Or similar attempts made by anyone here?

    Cheers, Sunnyjim...

I'm not sure about the answer, but I was struck by how young your girlfriend is to be a graduate of a four-year degree...?

I'm guessing one of the shorter (non-degree) courses in the Dental School given the subject material and the quick time to graduation! You will get the most direct answer from the relevant department and from TCD Admissions - additional qualifications such as another third-level course of some sort *may* be of help in an application, although to be honest the numbers who do this successfully for TCD entry are as I recall, on the low side as compared with other institutions. If you're already registered there is the option of an internal transfer although some of the rules are designed to prevent transfers that circumvent points requirements, and Bartley in the Students' Union can talk you through the various options and deadlines there (if she is still TCD-registered, that is - transfers are of course internal to the institution in this sense). Yes, having completed modules that are part of the course you wish to enter (whether by transfer or by direct entry) can be helpful, but in the TCD case a lot of it is case-by-case.

Spot on xeduCat, that was her faculty :D

She's unfortunatly not registered there anymore.

Getting in contact with the course coordinator is what I've told her to do - I had to do that last year when I wanted to go back to college. Worked for me!

    Much appreciated.
