My macbook - skinned/modded

Took my macbook apart and skinned/modded it..

I wouldn't reccommend this to anyone. It was a total PITA. Thos f**king macbook keyboards are so flimsy. My 'b' key is a bit flakey now and the return key is a bit wobbly too.

But hey, it was worth it. I only use the macbook for DJ'ing mostly. I can replace a key for a tenner on ebay at some stage if I'm desperate.

I should have taken a 'before' photo. I swear to god the thing was yellow, all in between the keys, around the lcd etc, brown and yellow and it wouldnt shift.

    Anyway....

    Red back light:

Silver monitor bezel and top panel:

I'm probably gonna get a lot of abuse for that, but you should have seen how filthy it was from 18 months in a boxroom studio with a heavy smoker.
    Anyway, I like it :D

Shame about the headache that f**king spray gives you.

Looks pretty cool, I like the silver finish.

Was the screen assembly difficult to remove? My sister spilt water on her MB and her screen is bust, was thinking of having a go at replacing it.

The screen bezel is just click on.

You can access the screen behind it, skrewing out a few screws, but be carefull, theres a magnet to the left which can fall out of place, no big deal though.

I didnt take much notice of the wiring but Im guessing you have to open the whole damn thing to replace the screen.

You could always make a "frankenbook"..

I want a different back light now! Dammit

Nice work. Not everyone would go for it, but its still a good job for a first go, regardless of whether it's someone's cup of tea or not.

Good work, I always toyed with the idea of modifiying my old MacBook's apple logo but was too afraid:p

Lads the backlight part is easy, seriously.

You can pull the front bezel off in two seconds, then with the right sized small skrewdriver, unskrew about 12 skrews, lower down the screen onto the keyboard, mod the logo, skrew the screen back on, click back the bezel.

    * I wouldn't reccommend anyone remove the keys for any reason though. *
They are far too flimsy. I'm pretty pissed off with Apple for this. Pissed off at myself too, for getting white in the first place, and for smoking so much!

One more thing, if anyone is spraying anything, 2 thin coats is better than 1 thick coat! Oh and let the spray dry, fully!

This is my old powerbook with a rainbow logo put in. Wrecked the warranty and never quite got the screen back together fully, but it was totally worth it

Al, it sounds like you left the white cover on the apple logo.

Actually there are 2. Firstly the plastic white covering which can easily be torn off, then there is chalky white paint on the apple transparent (perspex?) Apple logo.

This can be gently chiseled/scraped off with a skrewdriver, or perhaps a soft emry board style buffer thingy. Just dont use sand-paper as it will scratch the perspex. There is paint around the visable area, so it is easy to practice on that before tackling the logo.

Trust me, its easy to do, but dont blame me if you f**k it up.

    greets
