Sky+ box and Philips LCD picture quality

Not sure if I should be here or in the TV forum so bear with me.

I recently bought a Philips 42'' LCD and noticed what appeared to be four areas of ''clouding'' on the screen , two at the top , two on the bottom - particularly noticeable during night scenes.Problem was there on all stations and DVD movie's.

Went back to the shop and complained and was given a new one no problem.Set the new TV up and the problem was still there albeit in the extreme corners this time - brought the TV back and they set it up in the shop , worked perfectly ! Very helpful and patient guy in the shop said it could be caused by either unshielded speakers or a faulty Sky+ box.

Brought the TV home , set it up again and moved all the surround sound speakers away from the Tv , the ''clouding'' is now just over one area in the top right hand of the screen now ! Sky box is set to RGB and I've disconnected the surround sound DVD altogether.

Has anyone any ideas , I read in other forums that LCD's are not affected by speaker magnets like the CRT's so could I have a duff scart lead , weak Sky+ box as suggested or could it be interference from an electric wire running up the inside of a stud wall to a wall light situated right behind and above the TV ? The Sky+ box is a Pace and I've checked the signal strength and its very good.

Any advice or theories would be welcome.

I saw a Phillips 42" LCD TV on display in Tesco and it was noticeably "cloudier" than the other LCD tvs. Then when i saw the same TV in Harvey Norman, it again had the same sort of cloudy picture. Both TVs were playing DVDs. Sorry I can't help you directly but I have noticed this in Phillips TVs

any chance of a photo, I have a Philips 42" LCD and have not noticed this

slave1, hav'nt the equipment to post a photo - all my money went on the TV ! However if you play a DVD with night scenes or change the screen format around to 4:3 ratio it might show up if its there , but I reckon if you hav'nt noticed it then you do'nt have a problem. Its not very noticeable but I'm a stickler for perfection.

I do'nt have any other complaints about the TV , the picture quality across the vast area of the screen is 100% and colours are perfect. My hunch is that there is some other equipment interfering with it . I'm going to try and move it to another area in the room later in the week to see what happens and then maybe see if I can get someone from Philips to come and have a look at it , as I said the set was perfect when I brought it back and set it up in the shop showroom.

There were some slight 'clouds' on mt Sony when I bought it, but nothing too annoying. I had to send it back to komplett because a thin green line appeared running top to bottom.
When it was repaired and returned, the clouds also had disappeared (along with the green line of course). This would point to a problem with the TV itself, but doesn't explain why it was ok in the shop of cousre...

It may simply be less visible in shop lighting.

Is it worse or better in a totally dark room?

Watty , I thought of that and tried it with lights full on in my room and it was still there and when I was in the shop I shielded the TV from the downlighters and it was'nt there - I've also looked at it from various angles. Last night I removed the surround sound dvd and vcr from the cabinet and no change. The only other thing thats nearby ( 4 feet )is a cast iron stove in the fireplace which I can't move. I might try and move the TV to another room just so I have every possibility covered.
