Does an expensive scart lead really make much of a difference to picture quality?
I have a Sony lcd (32v2000) with sky+ connected with cheap scart, wondering if a decent scart would be of any real benefit

No an expensive scart lead is a waste of money. the one sky supply is quite enough.

I disagree, a proper scart like a QED will definitely improve your picture quality.

When you talking about HDMI then a cheap one will do!

Read the "Practical Advice" section on this Wikipedia article.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART

    Tis interesting.

Expensive brands are often no better than cheap ones. Gold is no advantange.

You can get good cheap ones.

FAT is good. The 6 video and 4 audio need to be on separate coax. Most cheap and many expensive ones simply use separate wires and single overall screen.

This results on hum on the sound and flicker on the picture.

The Sky supplied ones are rubbish, single screen, no individual coax.

Ironically the "practical advice" part on the Wikipedia is good, yet they want that part removed :(

Generally once you're paying €10 for it you will get no benefit paying €100 for it.

Unscrew the tension release nut and make sure every cable is individually shielded (should all be quite thick). If not you'll get crosstalk - interference to video and hum on sound is likely.

I am just talking from my experience, when I hooked my sky up to my pioneer plasma with the cheap scarts there was a vast improvement in quality when I used my QED scart!

I have a hdmi tv, only a gold edged Scart lead will work, nothing else it's very annoying

HDMI and SCART are completely unconnected technologies....

I think they do, to a certain point.

When I had Sky+, I used to use a cheap SCART. I replaced it with a £15 Ixos cable, that was very solid, fully wired and insulated etc. I did notice that the edges of text and people etc on screen did sharpen up with it.

However I would say the difference between that cable and say a £50 or £100 one would be minimal, but then again I never tried one so can't say for sure.

But mine made a definite, if small, improvement over a cheapo one from the pound shop.
