IT jobs in Laois?

My girlfriend works in the civil service and I'm working in IT (internal support/junior network admin) in Dublin. We're currently living in a one bedroom apartment in Dublin 5. She's just got an offer of a big promotion, but the snag is its in Portlaois. Without a doubt its the right career move for her, but I have no idea where I could work in the area.

We've considered us moving to Portlaois and me commuting (!) to my job in Dublin (Ballsbridge), but the train times would not get me in on time for my earlier shifts and neither of us drive. She suggested we move to nearer Heuston station in Dublin, and then we would both have a commute to work. This is the most likely scenario for what we will do in the short-term, but I hate the idea of both of us spending so much time traveling on a daily basis.

The only long-term solution I can see is to find a job in my field near or in Portlaois, but I've looked at a few job websites and had very few results - all of which were well above my pay-grade.

Does anybody know what the prospects of me getting a relevant job near the town are? I'm not particularly fond of living in Dublin, but it does seem thats the only place I can find work :(
