Any tips or recommendations for a 7 to 10 day trip to Sicily in May.

I intend to fly Dublin-Trapani with Ryanair.

    Would people suggest car-hire

Most definitely get car hire. I spent a few days around the west of the island and there was not much to do. The furthest in I travelled inland was Palermo and I was not impressed with the city. There is very little in Trapani or the surrounding areas. Erice is nice but not much to do there. Marsala is quiet but you can get some nice wine there. And then there are a few old structures that are nice to visit in the area, the one that stood out was an old theatre on a hill, I can't remember the name of it. If I was going again I would have travelled over to the east of the island and visited the volcano and some of the other cities, unfortunately the last time I had all the accommodation booked and paid for! If you haven't booked accommodation yet then plan it out so that you can get in as much of the island as possible, wish I had.
