    Hi Folks.
One of the many 'noobs' in the world of Triathlons.
Looking for a decent heart monitor that will measure HR and also cadence etc when hooked up to a bike - I know Polar are generally considered the best.

Any recomendations (I assume they would also need to be waterproof - or do you even measure HR in the swims?)

    Any help appreciated!

Polar would be the brand I'd recommend. I've had two of them, great functionality, very good after sales support.

Swim HR? You do your 50m/100m/200m rep, measure your pulse for 10 seconds during recovery, multiple by 6.

yes you can measure HR in the water. Do as tunney says or maybe get a watch that logs information and look at it afterwards. Training and racing to swim HR is of course more difficult because it's hard to look at your wrist while swimming.

If you're willing to spend a bit of money, take a look at the polar 625x.

I asked Santa for a wireless cadence and power meter for christmas. Apparently I was a bad girl last year so I'm going to have to be very good throughout 2008 :-)

But then how do you manage the HRM strap, I know you *can* get a rig that holds it on but they hard to find, pricey and frankly look gack.

I.m a girl so my swimsuit holds in in place just fine. Partner sometimes swims with his too and I've never heard him having a problem. I do prefer the old style polar straps (soft all around). the new ones with the solid piece at the front don't fit me so well.

I've tried a few different straps and a good kick off the wall pulls them off. A tri suit or womens swim suit would hold them on alright.
