I got a lend of this pedal from a friend who is into his metal, and it was truly the worst distortion pedal i have ever used, he said it himself that he hated the damn thing. Now i'm not a "metal" player, probably the complete opposite, but it really was just terrible, just a fizzy awful mess of a distortion. I'm sure there are some people out there who like it but, definitely not me. As for ac/dc stuff i would say no, dont know anything about pantera so i can't comment. I would steer clear of this pedal. Well there's my 2cents.;)

rat pedal has to be mentioned in any talks of pedal distortion effects.

The Boss metal zone sounds like someone put a bunch of wasps in a jar and shook them vigorously. It has to be THE worst distortion pedal known to man.

What amp are you currently using?

Don't touch it with a bargepole. The wasp analogy is true.

Do we have to spell it out? where are you studying by the way? If you still want to check it out head into town and try it out. But please dont buy it!

Well, with the Line 6 and Cube you should be able to get usable metal sounds. I don't know if the Marshall has effects or anything. Because you're using a variety of amps I'd suggest you look at something like the Line 6 pod, you could create your settings with the distortion or clean sounds you like and still have it pretty similar sounding when you switch around amps.

Your best bet is probably the new pocket POD by Line 6, its about 100euro. Nice and small so you could chuck it in your bag or gigbag and bring it to college easily enough.

http://line6.com/pocketpod/sounds.html - Check out the sounds there.

Never used the pedal myself, there's some clips of it here - http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/demos/en/MT-2_sound/demo.html

You're better of going and trying it out for yourself, if you like it get it, if not...

I picked up an MT-2 around this time last year secondhand, and I loved it.
It was very finicky[sp?], a slight twist of a knob here or there and the sound would change. 95% of the time I play metal and I got what I wanted from it.
I think I payed 40/50 bucks for it

MT-2 has since moved on as I got meself a POD XTLive.
Give one a test drive is probably your best bet.

The Metal Zone is a fine pedal but it does take a while to learn how to EQ the fizz out of it. It is possible to get some excellent tones out of it, but some understanding of frequencies is advantageous.

Personally, I'd recommend the Line 6 Uber Metal, got one to replace a Metal Zone a few months ago and it's a great distortion pedal and will easily do super distorted like Pantera and their ilk as well as a nice crunchy lighter distortion. Again, it's a tonally flexible pedal like the Metal Zone and you need to understand the EQ to get the best out of it.

its an awful pedal.awful, awful, awful.i know ppl will probably go agianst this but if your looking for a good pedal try out the Boss overdrive/distortion (OS-2).i got one a few weeks ago and i use it to play indie, rock and metal and it sounds great for them all.may not be the best but its damn good.and it only cost 90euro

Oh yeah I forgot, I heard that the Digitech Bad Monkey is supposed to be a good pedal. Pretty cheap too! :)

If its metal you play then get a turbo rat. Or a good amp.

I have one of these, it's a great pedal, but it's more of a gain boost than an actual overdrive / distortion pedal. It doesn't colour your sound too much, it just gives it a bit more crunch.

I've seen more people selling Metal Zones than any other given pedal tbh. You'll often see people throwing in a Metal Zone for free when selling other items.

So, on the upside, you should be able to pick one up second hand for next to nothing if you're one of the few people who actually like the sound of it. :D

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be many fans of it round here :p.
Anywho, kieranmcg1, what you end up gettin' in the end?
