Man shows

Ok so we all know some shows are male orientated and some are female orientated, they may also appeal to a minority of members of the opposite gender but they are mainly orientated to one or the other so which ones are your favorite male orientated one's to watch with a cold beer and chip'N'dip? I'll start as an example:

Top Gear: I use to hate it but since Richard Hammond and the other guy joined it's just really funny.

Deadliest Catch: I don't know why, I just like it. I sat in one Saturday and watched 10 episodes in a row.

24 - Jack Bauer is the coolest hero since Han Solo.

Wheeler Dealers on Discovery is great. They take old cars, do them up and then sell them on.
    Not a woman in sight.

On the other side of the coin, I like to flick past Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City. Very informative
with stimulating visuals. Any man who says they don't leave them on screen for a second while channel surfing
    is a liar.

Lately I've become hooked on Overhaulin' and The Garage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,205 ✭✭✭barneysplash

Yeah, The Garage is great. Every other car seems to come in from overheating!
That blonde that used to be in it was nice, I haven't seen it in a while,
is there any new eye candy on display?

Pretty much anything on Discovery that involves welding is worth a look.

Of course there's Megastructures on National Geographic.

Big concrete pumps, steel rebar, sparks, men, hard hats, safety harnesses.

    Great stuff

The Wire is great as well. Oh, and House MD with Hugh Laurie.

    She is cute too.

Some of the things on How it's made are actually made in prisons in Canada by convicts.
They are big believers in the whole rehab kick.

Another good Discovery Channel show to watch out for is "How do they do it?"
It takes 5 things per show and shows how they are made. Examples include runners, watches, railway tracks and tyres.

One time they went to a Seiko watch factory in Japan, and showed how the
Seiko Kienetic watches are made. These are watches that do not require a battery,
but are powered by the movement of your arm. Fascinating stuff.

Bear Grylls, It was all faked apparently:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_Grylls
Following allegations that the show deceived viewers into believing that he was really stranded in the wild when he wasn't, Channel 4 suspended broadcast of the show. Discovery aired re-edited episodes designed to remove faked elements, with a fresh voiceover, and has continued on with season three of the program.[6]

An adviser to the Man vs. Wild/Born Survivor series had claimed that rather than 'roughing it', Grylls had in fact been staying at a Californian hotel between filming. Similarly, it was alleged that Grylls had stayed at a motel in Hawaii while giving viewers the impression that he was stranded on a desert island. These allegations, and others, were confirmed by Channel 4, who argued that it wasn't a documentary, but a 'how-to' guide to survival, implying that 'faked' or re-shot scenes were acceptable in that context. The messege boards on the Discovery website have been buzzing with viewers that thought incorrectly about the show confusing it and comparing to the series Survivorman.[7]

    It's actually very good.

For those of you who don't know what it is. Queer Eye is a makeover show where 5 gay guys
makeover a straight guy in the areas of Fashion, Grooming, Culture, Food and Lifestyle.

I've gotten some great tips from the show.

Here is a quick summary clip with Kylie:

Kyan was the first person I heard calling hair gel "product"

We don't like that kind of stuff round these parts.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,205 ✭✭✭barneysplash

We don't like that kind of stuff round these parts.

Well the show is designed to help straight men tap more as$ by cleaning up
their look a lá James Bond.

Being manly changes with the times. There is room in here for classic manly men a lá
Clint Eastwood, Jack Bauer, The Hoff, Men behaving badly...

and the modern takes on masculinity like Daniel Craig, David Beckham or
Jack from Lost who now does ads for L'Oreal product.

We're still men, we still like to kick doors off hinges, we still like to class Red Bull as a food group.
We just turn on the charm from time to time to snag more pelt.

Maybe try experimenting with your metro side, you'd be surprised how the women react.
Oh, and how good it feels to have a manicure. :)

    Ha ha :)

There are many sides to being a red blooded male.

John Wayne is manly, but so is James Bond.

All of us, metrosexual, hobosexual, couch potato, fitness freak, tech geek, footie nut, must stand together as men.

    Otherwise the women will win.

So what do you say brothers, is there room in BGRH for me and my kind? Because I know there are more of us out there.

I still love a good proper order picture, or eating things that have been out of the fridge too long.

But there is just something about Celine Dion singing "My heart will go on" that sends a shiver down my spine.

Maybe that makes me less of a man, I don't know. But I can't deny what I am.
