I wandered out to the Clare Glens on New Year's Eve and took a few pictures.

I'd welcome your views on them - in particular what I might have done to improve the pictures.

I think these were the settings for the photo.

    Aperture F20
    Shutter 2.5 sec
    ISO 200
    White balance - cloudy

I think the first one is slightly overexposed. But I love water shots. I like the third one also, the twisted knarled look of that tree the colours are great

I made comment on another posters photos and think similar could apply here. Basically the commenting on angle from which you took the shot.

#1 - I would crop the sides a fair bit. and I would have crouched down (if thats possible anyway) and zoomed in, making the small pool the foreground. Tthe picture could use some depth. i.e. a foreground, middle and back.

#2 - similar comment to #1, It may be improved by taking the shot from near water level, so you have some blurry water in the foreground, and then the photo would "lead" back to the waterfalls.

    #3 - nice tree

Some very nice shots. I especially like the second one and the tree.

bw, just to experiment with what you've suggested I'll have to back out and try to get closer to the water - I think I had the tripod fully extended so I'll try to use it at it's lowest position.

    Thanks everyone for your time.:D

Just a suggestion, try [1] using portrait view.

Hi pf, thanks for the suggestion. I considered the portrait view but I would have had to hold the camera in my hand as my (handmedown) tripod doesn't allow me to change positions. Also, I couldn't move further back either so what you see was the max size I could capture - though now on bw's suggestion of getting down lower I may be able to move a bit further back as the legs of the tripod shouldn't up so much space.:)

I might also get a groundsheet or something to lay on and experiment.

    Thanks again for your suggestions.
