Just lookin for some advice on places to visit on a 2-week trip to Thailand in May. I was thinkin about Bangkok for 2 days and then head down to the islands. Anyone have any advice on places worth visiting? I suppose i want to minimise travelling as im only there for 2 weeks. Thank you in advance

With only 2 weeks, you dont want to be moving around a lot. 2 days in Bangkok - to do some touristy stuff - Grand Palace - Emerald Budha etc. Don't join a tour group, just get a taxi over and have a walk around. Tour groups usually rush you in and then straight out again. Bangkok great for shopping (use the skytrain), and the nightlife caters for everything you could want (or dont want!).
You could then fly down to Krabi and stay on Raleigh Beach (direct flights from Bangkok on airasia.com). Best sunsets, (and the best rock climbing) and good for chilling out. You could stay here for 4 days and so another island, or have an 8/10 day rest. Other island options are Pi Pi, Phuket,(Phuket can be a bit touristy), or Koh Chang - stay at Porns - (http://www.pornsbungalows-kohchang.com/pictures.htm) Enjoy.

Ok, it looks like ill be goin for 17 nights. I've decided to go to Bangkok 2 nights, Koh Samui for 7 nights, Koh Phangan for 7 nights and then Bangkok again. The reasons being the weather mainly and there is a min. amount of travel between the 2 islands.

I would check out Koh Phi Phi but found out the weather might not be the best. I was also looking at Koh Chang but thought it was a little out of the way compared to the island I had chosen.

I have a couple of questions; Would it be feasible and worth it to try and go to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Chang? Also, I hear a lot about Samui and Phangan being party islands. Where would be the best place to stay on these islands to avoid this kind of scene? Don't get me wrong, I'd like to be near a lively scene but don't wanna feel i'm in the Costa Del Sol if you know what I mean. Thanks

Bo Phut on Koh Samui is lovey, the nightlife is not hectic, there is a few bars in Fishermans village which you get to by walking along the beach. Along the beach at night the hotels have tables on the sand where you can have dinner. It is a lovely spot. We stayed there on honeymoon and had a relaxing time and also had a few great nights out. Fishermans village is great for food and for drinks. When you want to go a bit mad just jump in a taxi and go to Chaweng - this is a bit like a Costa Del Sol 'strip'!

Koh Phangan is a lot less built up than Koh Samui, most resorts are very quiet, Haad Rin is where the full moon parties take place. We stayed on Thong Nai Pan Noi beach, which is really chilled out and accessible via dirttrack over a hill, or by boat. It was beautiful but we were dying to get back to Koh Samui after a few days!!

I would advise you to go to Bangkok on the way back,so you can stock up on your shopping then!!

Thanks Tubos, I had changed the plan again, would you believe because I have been told to expect somethin similar to the Costa Del Sol when I go to Koh Samui. We decided to go Bangkok - Koh Phangan - Koh Tao - Koh Phi Phi - Bangkok. I reckon I might have to throw in Koh Samui as I think ill be passing thru on the way to Koh Phi Phi.

Just back from Thailand. Bangkok did not think much 2-3 days is enough. Just do the touristy things. Stayed in Lamai in Koh Samui and beach is nice but town is bit costa ish. Heard Chaweng has a bit more night life but still a bit costa ish did not go there

Did a day trip to Koh Tao and if your not into diving then maybe not worth it as thats all the seem to do and talk about. Not sure if Koh Phangan is the same

Yeah there is a beach there cannot think of the name of it. If you get the jetfoil from Samui you land at the port then get a taxi as the port has a beach but its crap and just used for the divers

go to freedom beach from wherever you are staying in koh tao, or the one on the island off sairee cant think of name but would recommend both if your not planning on diving
