Hey there, just wondering. I do a bit of freelance work for a local newspaper and recently saw they had republished some of my photos for a kind of review thing. just wondering should I charge them for these?

You should certainly look into it, but if you will get paid is another thing.

When you handed over the photos, did you state that they were a one print run only (ie: limited use)? If not, you'll have a hard time trying to convince the paper of this retrospectively. Most local papers will store freelance shots as library images unless limited usage is stated. It's terms like these that one should hammer out for when handing over images for publication.

Yes. And should you pursue further work with them, make sure both of you are covered by a contract.

Thanks guys, just saw them recently and thought that i'd have some sort of recourse; its something I'll bear in mind with my future photos and I'll definitely take on board what fenster is saying about a contract of some sort :) I take it they are still mine by copyright?
