Hey! Hope you guys can help me out here. Basically I've been living in Australia (the outback) for the last 5 years. While there I took up bow hunting in a big way. I have a compound bow setup for hunting, sight, peep, d-loop and release aid etc etc.. Now I doubht theres a big hunting scene here in Ireland (I might be wrong!) so I was hoping to get involved in some competitions. I have some experience in competition shoots but that was using 3D targets at my local bow hunting club.

Now heres the thing, is there any competitions out there that would suit my setup / style of shooting? Or should I look into changing my setup?

    Cheers guys.

    Hey there,

Welcome to Ireland! Actual bowhunting in Ireland (and Europe) is illegal so no joy there I'm afraid. However, your bow setup is fine. There are 2 main organisations here that you should look into. The first is the IAAA (www.archery.ie), this organisation runs all the target and FITA field competitions in the country. With the addition of a good longarm your bow setup will be fine for that. Actually, now that I think of it, best make sure your bow peaks at no more than 60lbs (legal competition limit) and that your arrows are no wider than 23xx.

If 3D is your thing, you could look into IFAF (http://homepage.eircom.net/~goto/archery/). You can join both IAAA and IFAF and shoot in all you can. The Northern Ireland Archery Association have lots of 3D shoots as well so you won't be short of some competition!

Hope this was helpful and hope to see ya on the line at some events! :)

If you do lean towards IAAA side of things you will also need to make sure your sight is competition legal. Multi pin sights are not

Cheers guys, I'll look into both of them! Looking forward to getting back into it, the backyard just doesn't cut it. Yeah I'll have to swap out the sight on my XForce, I'm using a multi pin on that :( I really liked it too...

    Thanks for your help again!

    Cheers
