Just a few taken on New Years Day at Glendalough...

Only messing with originals was some contrast and a bit of vignetting.
The first one's my fav. :)

    Nice.

I'm really liking that second one!

    Love the third

Really nice shots. I like 2 & 3. They have lots of atmosphere. 3 has great depth, 2 is a little busy but other than that its very dramatic. I think 1 could use a few more tweaks tho. B&W maybe?

really like the first one think its great. The sharpness of the machinery and the blurry background is really effective.

Middle one is a bit dark for me but and interesting shot

and I like the last one

my fav is the first one
    ;)

Something like this with no. 1 maybe?
Tho it's probably a little over done...

    Thanks folks!

The winch pic does look really interesting in B&W - my version was almost like something from the wild west.
In the end I figured I liked the originals (almost) as they were for a change without resorting to altering any fundamentals. :)

#1 - nice pic techically but it seems just a point-and-shoot shot - it may have been interesting taking it from various angles, specifically from the ground looking up, or looking down, or a closeup of the axel with lots of depth of field. that kinda thing.

#2 - i think again depth of field would make the tree stand out as the rocky background interferes with what would be a nice pic of an interesting tree. but as you've used a slow shutter speed for the blurry water effect, it would be difficult to use a aperture of 5.6 or less.

#3 - nicely spotted - the natural path in the trees. this would be a super shot had there been a dear or stag standing right at the end of that "path".

    there you go, my .02c

Thanks bw - you're spot on in fact.

I have a bunch more close-ups of parts of that machinery with various DOFs. I just haven't had time to sift through them now I'm back to work (and my card is at home).

Re pic two - what you suggest would have been great however I was limited by my position on the mountain and the fact I'd chose not to lug a tripod with me. I was lucky to get a semi clear shot at all in fact!

Re pic three - those damned deer just wouldn't get out of the shot!

I quite like the 2nd and 3rd and after the few I took yesterday I see where I've to aim for!
