I'm thinking of hiring a villa this year for summer hols. There will be 5 adults and two children in our party.
Has anyone here any advice on where to start?
I don't mind where we go. only somewhere sunny!!

Been surfing the net with regard to this myself today. If you google villa hire and whatever country you fancy it will throw up lots of options. There seems to be plenty of availability as well. My party is a similar size to yours so if you want beach front as I do you will be looking at 5 or 6k minimum. Best of luck, Daisy

    Thanks Daisy,
Is the 5 or 6k including flights?

from the UK I think, possibly with Jamesvillas.ie too from Dublin. I was thinking about buying the flights myself as soon as I found some place I wanted to go to. Let me know if you come across any gems! Daisy

IMO, your mate needs to improve his photos and show more of the house.

For years now I've hired a house for a week.
Pick where you would like to go the most, google 'villa for rent' or 'house for rent'
There are thousands to choose from. I always pick one with good photos showing the house off to the full.
Location is important, if you like to go out to dinner at night and take a drink, it's important to find a house within walking distance of a restaurant or two (which you can also google).
Most renting of houses are done by e-mail so you can ask such questions when making your enquiry.

    UPDATE:
I found a 4 (8 people) bedroom villa with private pool in Costa Blanca for €2100 for two weeks in July. However the flights into Alicante (1 hr away) are now €1400 for 4 people. If I fly to Madrid 4.5/5 hr drive, I can get flights for €800. Anybody know of any hotels with family rooms near Madrid airport?
Also anyone ever drive from the east coast to Madrid? and what is the trafic like there on a Friday?
    I hope they don't a have a Spanish version of our M50!!
