Bad Quality on HD tv with normal sky?

Okay ,so today i bought a 47" True HD ( 1080p ) Philips TV , from the 30% off offer in tesco , the model number is 47PFL5522D/05 , Now i connected my PS3 via hdmi and my sky box via scart.

Now of course the PS3 is perfect quality since i have it set to 1080p , But sky is a bit blurry and fuzzy?

I also have a 19" HD TV ( 720p ) and sky is perfect quality on that and it is connected by scart aswell.

The sky box is a normal sky box by the way.

Why is the quality on the 47" tv so bad?

Will i have to get SkyHD to improve the quality or?

    Any help would be apprecieated!

    Thanks

    - Alan

obviously the picture is going to look better on a 19" than a 47" because the picture is expanded on the 47". nothing to do with the quality of the tv.

TV Size should match the size of your room
You may need to sit further away.
    I have a 40" LCD Samsung 1080p and my room is 4.5mx5.5m.
Picture is fine with TV is one corner and me in the other.
You should also check the TV is adjusted for the home and its usually pre adjusted for showroom conditions.

Have you got the video output set to RGB and is it an individually screened (cable will be very fat and lead very heavy) SCART lead (also remember that "Gold contacts" don't matter at all)? Composite video over a cheap SCART lead will look very poor on a large screen. I believe you turn RGB on in the same menu as widescreen settings on a Sky box.

Also, on analogue sources such as SCART the sharpness filter in Philips TVs can cause havoc - my 15" Philips HDTV (no, I dunno why they make them that small either...) made the picture from my Technomate satellite box and my DTT box look abysmal until I turned the sharpness filter off.

Does this RGB setting make a difference from the PAL setting

Massive, assuming a decent SCART is used.

Another vote here for making sure your using RGB and a good scart lead , the bigger the TV the more important this is.

Sky SD appears to be optimised for a 28" viewing screen. Anything larger is going to look poor from too close.

Anyone a recommendation on where I'd get one of these (on the web or bricks and mortar)?

I'm in a similar sitution - new (bigger) TV and Sky looks poor... (not bad mind you, but I just used the sh*tty scart that came with my Sky+ and am sure that it could look better.)

Regular Sky is not broadcasting at 1080p resolution so the picture will not be as good on a 1080p tv as the PS3 for instance. Sky HD should look perfect.

Thanks for the advice - worked a treat with my 40" LCD.
