    Christmas review number 2

    Introduction
The G&G Scar arrived via Santa. This is the long barrelled version. The first thing to note is this is a full sized aeg, so the box is big, we certainly compared to the gr300 short anyways.

    Statutory box comment
big and colourful with lovely flashy piccies, oh and its a box. Its tbf, quite stunning as it happens.

    Some generic Information
This is the EX16 mod 0 version. I am not aware what that means but i am sure its probably important to someone.

    Stock
This is the first Scar from G&G. it comes with a whole new wiring system that is fairly unique then any aeg i have ever met. So to change the battery is a different experience. Every other aeg i have owned worked on a version of this: the battery cables are connected through the body to the motor. In this one its very different. You take off the stock completely as in there are no trailing wires. To do this is very very simple, in fact sort of crane stock moronic. You press a rear button and while keeping it lowered pull a pin out, the back of the stock comes completely off. You then use that pin to press a clip on the lower stock to take the entire stock unit off. You now see how G&G did this. There are 2 gold plated contacts and 2 gold plated rods that provide power to the motor. In fact they have made a big play in silver wiring and goldplated connectors everywhere. I assume this is to reduce the resistance from the wiring. all Very Smart. when you look into the rear of the removed stock you have plenty of room for a battery. This takes a 9.6v, i put a mini in there with room to spare but interesting it doesnt rattle.. They warn all over the place that an 8.4 will damage the motor and gears. you then connect the usual connectors. now do the stock in reverse. align with the rods, put the stock back in. put the back plate back on (you dont have to actually remove this) put the pin back in, press the button and 'dock' the stock. IT takes at most a minute and i really do mean a minute. you could actually do this mid fight, obviously not the thing to do but good to know. you do not need any tools like screwdrivers etc. The stock also has 2 other features. there is a cheek piece that you can raise that pivots on a rearward pin. When i saw this first i didnt think it was worth much until i put a red dot on the aeg. There seems to be 2 settings, up and down, but it definitely helps with a red dot for me when its is raised. The SCAR (all of them) allow the stock to fold making it considerably smaller. I would imagine with a smaller barrel this would make it very compact. The plastic on the stock is very thick and resilient, that scratch resistant stuff you get on aeg's. The stock has 6 setting allowing you to make it very very comfortable to shoulder.

    Main Body
The main body looks like an m4 but is very different. The biggest difference you notice is a selector switch that is considerably easier to use. The original m4 selector switch always caused me problems going to full auto. i never really managed to do that without unshouldering the aeg, not exactly what you want to do when you want to goto full auto. The scar is different. the selector switch is thumb changeable. lower is safe, mid is semi, full depression is full auto. that means no more unshouldering to goto full auto. the selector switch is very firm, it isnt going to move without your thumb. The colour is a very matt black. again like the gr300, this is flawless. i didnt see one piece of rough metal or indeed blobby paint, kinda of hard to believe it is metal but it is. The rear grip is your standard m4 grip, and i think it will change that to a more exotic type which is an optional extra for this aeg. It looks like a standard m4 part but i am not sure, so that is something i will need to check. On the other side of the aeg at finger length is the mag release button. So everything is m4ish with some good mods. the mag release is a much bigger button and again is very firm. The hopup is reached by using your bolt release, again different from the m4 , it is a more usual bolt release on the upper side and not the way m4s usually work, i guess like the real SCAR. The hopup rubber is a new one from g&G and is (according to G&G very resilient) The good news is due to its colour it is very visable so you should be able to see wear and tear without removing the hopup unit and gutting the aeg. Of course that remains to be seen i guess but it is a nice touch. The upper receiver has a rail and a high quality metal sight. you can lower the metal sight. When i placed my red dot on it, the sights were not visable. Keep in mind this is not a cantilever mount, but the flat one. There is 2 sling attachments attached.

    Fore Grip
RIS rails up the yangers here. There is a full one the length of the top. I am seriously thinking of getting one of those new removable aimpoint X3 additions for this aeg as i an sure you could snipe very effectively with it, and more to the point it would look incredibly cool, actually now that i think of it, thats actually the main reason.

The rails are your usual ones. You do also get in the box a free grip. THis is one of those spring loaded stand versions. It is very comfortable and although the aeg is long (not m14 long, but long) the grip is very comfortable near the mag. So that means the aeg is very well balanced with the mag area as the mid point. The front sight is foldable with a button press and again you get a front sight adjustment tool in the box. This aeg is calling out for attachments and in fact G&G have as an optional extra light, a very cool one which looks like it was designed for this aeg. The scar is very modern looking and is appearing in a lot of computer games now (if you play crysis etc you know what i mean). The front grip also has a fixed point for a 3 point sling. THe mag is a hi cap as before -- a 400+ round one.

    Nice Extras
There is one really nice extra, the dvd. When i heard of this i kinda said, here we go a sales pitch. In fact it is excellent. It is a complete break down of the aeg, including stripping the gearbox. I wish every manfacturer would do something like this, even online. Yes i know they are on arnies, but its good to see a manfacturer showing it. TBH, if i could find a way of sharing this easily i would, now that i think of it i will check G&G and see if they have.

    Finally
Really excellent aeg, not a rattle to be had. Still need to test fire it in earnest but i am very happy and that from someone who unashamedly admits is an m4 slapper. Got from Shiva on eirsoft for a really great price, well i didnt buy it but sure am delighted. As per my gr300 review, the price is pretty amazing. This aeg has returned me to my childhood...so much so i spent hours looking for the right extras for it online. I will get the short barrel as they are apparently easy to change. This is a great aeg for mid to long ranges in HRTA and if the web is to be believed is very accurate. i will check that and report back.

    Looks 5/5
    extras 5/5
    Accuracy/rof tbt

Honestly cant recommend it enough...a well thought out aeg, yet again good to see designers listening to players.

    pics to follow
