Guitar Hero III on Wii...

Alrighty, for being so fantastically amazing and talented, our team at work was given £100 (~ €140) multi-voucher dealy just before Christmas. It's accepted in the likes of HMV, Dixons, etc.

I'm considering getting Guitar Hero III on the Wii, mostly because I probably wouldn't spend that much on a game otherwise. So I've a few questions:

    1. Has anyone played it and what do they think of it? It appears to have gotten good reviews. I've never played ANY of the Guitar Hero games at all.
    2. Would it be worthwhile getting a second guitar, if the voucher affords it? Is the game much better / different with 2 players?
    3. Anyone any idea if Rock Band is coming out over the next few months or so? Ideally, that's the game I'd prefer :)

    Thanks!

    1. Its a great game, and especially fun if you've never played a GH game before.
    2. You can't buy extra Wii guitars on their own, as far as I know.
    3. No release date for Rock Band yet (Just Q1 2008). Unfortunately, its PS2, PS3 and 360 only (no Wii version has been announced).

One thing you should know - there is a production flaw in the game whereby the sound is in mono. No big deal if the sound is coming from your TV, but if you have an expensive multi speaker system, it might be more noticeable. The manufacturers will be replacing faulty disks free of charge next year (allegedly).

    Worth getting, in my opinion.

    Great Game.
Broke it out last night after 1 and We played till the small hours.
Not one person who played it felt it was a bad game. Even thou some of them where crap.

Well worth getting for Fun Value. the Battles are Great crack and very well done.

Personally I would hang on till the new MTV thing comes out...You can have a drum kit and all with it...looks like excellent fun.....

Should be out on Wii also....

Go for it. It's great craic. I haven't played a guitar hero game before this one and I don't think it makes a difference.

It's really good fun. Just go for it.

Am I right in saying that you can get extra tracks that other people made on GH2 (and I assume 3) for the 360?

If so, will anything like that be possible for the Wii?

Saw it in HMV the other day and seriously considered buying it, though the PS2 version was considerably cheaper so I'm wondering if there's much of a reason to get the Wii version over it.

the wii version has more motion controlls, you get different points for tilting the guitar etc, wii is the way to go!

Does it? I dont think so , the only time you get more points is when you activate star power by tilting the guitar but all format's guitars have this.

You might be better off getting the Ps2 version as all the games are on the Ps2 (GH1, GH2 , 80's and GH3) And there is more games than guitars floating around (games could/can be bought separately and also people buying two guitar packs to get 2 controllers)so you might pick them up cheap enough second hand.

If you still use your Ps2 regularlly i'd get it on that.

Hmv have by far the best prices on this game BTW.

One more thing, why is the wii pack more expensive than the ps2 version? The wii mote takes care of all the expensive aspects of the guitar(wireless connectivity and tilt sensor) The guitar is just a few extra buttons , yet its €110 in gamestop.

€82 in HMV with the student card, €90 without. That's a €20 difference, which I can't get my head around. Out of curiosity, how much is the PS2 version going for?

does anyone know if the PAL version of the game is stuck with only mono sound?

ive also heard that its ridiculiously more difficult than the older versions?

thanks for the tip about HMV, i might pick the game up for my birthday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭CrazyTalk

Its 95 in HMV now, actually. It was 80 before, which is annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

    That's ridiculous!! Robbing f*ckers

Great game though - well worth the purchase. Will there be downloadable content on the wii version?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,038 ✭✭✭penexpers

Eventually there will be downloadable content. Of course, the Xbox/PS3 versions already have a heap of downloadable content, which is annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The Wii only has 512mb of flash memory, so what you can download would be very limited (a 3 track pack is 70-90mb on the 360).

Cheers for the replies, guys. As a matter of interest, have many people played 2 player on this?

If so, is there anywhere you can buy a second guitar? I think I'll stick with the Wii version for now, if only for the sake of DLC in the future (can always use SD cards, theoretically).

I know i ####in hate the place! But i couldn't remeber the prices in HMV and i was in gamestop the day before. Can i recomend to you all frets on fire if your not sure if you'll like guitar hero. Its a free guitar hero clone for the pc. Not exactly the same but it'll give you a good indication of if you like it

Just downloaded and installed Frets on Fire.... Class!! (the p1ss take of Yngwie Malmsteen on the tutorial is Brill)

I'm in work and I had the speakers going with 4 of us around my machine. If Guitar Hero is this good then I cant wait to get it.

saw an ad the other day saying that Tesco were selling it (with the guitar) for 60 euro which i thought was a bargain and would have sent me staright to tesco to buy it had i not already bought it for the 360

I've played two player but only as two folsk have boths a set. there is apparently a Stand alone Guitar due for release as some piont.
the second player does Bass. Fun for someone who's played it and figures he has all songs down pat.

Well, last night I bought it and today I started playing it. And I think it's awesome; particularly since I haven't played any GH games before.

I've finished it on Easy already, but am now going back to get the last one or two songs I (didn't realise I) missed. But man, some of that was tough and I haven't even gone *near* medium yet!

Top marks from me, anyway. Looking forward to getting some multiplayer going!

That €60 PS2 option seems mighty tempting, but also a great waste of a new wii...

I disagree... the Xbox version has far better online capability... Lots of extra tracks available online... The guitar doesn't use batteries as much as the Wii version.

It's great... it's quite hard to get into... You might have to work a bit at it at first, but when you get it, it's really fun... I'm currently 20 songs into Expert mode... I don't even know how I got my hands to move that way :/

Second Guitar is always good.. especially as you can play a coop career... You can't buy one separately in the shops... so ebay it or something...

Rock Band should be out pretty soon.... it'll be a hell of a lot more expensive (I think) cos of the equipment, but it will be awesome... I'll be buying both.

It is more difficult, but it also has far more songs on it... 72 or something compared to the previous most of 53 (gh1), 62 (gh2), 30 (gh80s)...

Me... and it's awesome... One guy plays Rhythm, the other plays Bass... Works really well :)

There's a coop career mode which you can play through.

Personally I hate frets on fire, but loved GH (all of them).... youtube a few vids of Guitar Hero and you'll probably know if you like it or not.

Just got Guitar Hero on the Wii. Was unsure initially to buy it or not. I downloaded frets on fire and was completely put off guitar hero because people said it was similar, but given the great reviews and the comments here I bit the bullet and bought it.

Now i have it i can't stop playing it, love it love it love it. Almost finished easy and my fingers ache but it's worth it!
