I'm looking into Journalism when I'm older and am interested in writing a few columns for some type of website. Analysis of current affairs, drugs, youth culture. All that jazz.

Just wondering do you know of any online newspapers, or sites that I could maybe apply to?

Obviously, not bbc or RTE.

Oh very good. Pray tell what experience of current affairs do you have that makes you capable of giving an analysis of same?
This is great - the world of journalism is crying out for someone with no experience to come along and give vent to their opinions. Wonder why nobody else ever thouight of doing that. Try the Sunday Indo, I know they have nobody who is capable of doing that.

Now, with my irony hat off, why don't you go to a weekly paper and learn the nuts and bolts of real journalism?

*pauses for the bile filled santosubito to get off his high horse*

have you tried spunout.ie and those type of things...? why not start a blog and write something and if you can't get it on any site published it there.

theres plenty of free local papers who merely xerox press releases so you could write something for them and you might get it in.

Is there a local paper in your area? You could possibly ask to be shown around, get a bit of advice or knowledge of how it works there and maybe right the odd little piece for them.

Also as lostexpectation said, try a blog. It doesn't have to be good, and you don't even need to publish it on the net, just keep it to yourself. Write whatever comes to mind. It doesn't have to be a coherent piece, just any old jibberish that will get you used to writing.

Then you can work your way up and eventually become a press officer for the government because you have a great contact list...
