Philips 32" - Is this a bargain?

I've just bought a 32" Philips LCD ( 32PLF3312) in Harvey Normans for €699. I was interested in their Samsung 32" for €769 (I think), but the assistant told me that this Philips was more telly for my buck. It was €799 before the sale and he said it was €899 a month ago. Am watching it right now and it seems pretty good, if a tad HUGE!

I can't seem to find any online reviews of this model in english.

What do yez think? Should I have stuck to the Samsung R series model? Is it good value for money?

By the way there was a PLF model in Arnotts that was on sale with a DVD player thrown in for €769. I didn't get the model number but if they are similar tellies, Harvey Normans were in the same ball park.

I have never liked Philips equipment. Always overpriced for what you are getting, compared to other brands.

Just looked at your post in another thread, Irish Grumpy, and according to yourself they only had a few at that price and were sold out by 9.02am.

Looking in Power City at the moment, it is €729 in the shop and if you buy online it is €656. €43 less than what I paid. DID have it at the same price as what I paid ( well 95 cent dearer - yippee!).

I'm not seething, Lord Deco, I got it at a fairish price. Nothing special.

Are you not annoyed that the sales rep lied to you about the samsung (the better set) just to get his extra commission?

Other than that, it's still a great tv.

power city in coolock had none at 9.01am on the 26th. there were all "pre-booked" even tho they had 50 and that the sale was meant to start at 9am how they were all "pre-booked" is a farce

Well, I haven't compared the two TV's but Komplett have had a 32" Tosh for €599 for ages now. I know someone who bought one of them & is well pleased.

Well no, he didn't say that the Samsung wasn't a great TV. Of the range they had, he recommended either the Samsung or the Philips. He steered me away from the others. The Sharpes, Panasonics and Sonys and others whose names I didn't recognize.

In fact a couple of months ago I was gonna get an M series Samsung in Power City for €999. I'm glad I didn't. I realize that I wanted something cheaper. I'm not a gamer, we watch a bit of telly and the odd movie. It would have been overkill.

At the end of the day I got a decent telly at an ok price. All I regret is that I didn't get a smaller one. It's huge. How do people watch 42" tellies? I suppose I'll get used to it.

If your happy with the picture quality & price, then you good a good deal.
If your more concerned about specs etc, then unfortunatly you got the bottom of phillips range, the higher th 32PLF3312 the better the tv, hence phillips 32PLF9632 is the top end model & would cost €1179

You are right Keith C. Picture is pretty good. Unless I wanted to queue outside Power City at 7am Stephens Day morning, I wasn't going to get a decent 32" telly for much less. I'm happy enough with my purchase though I am normally a bit cannier.

    42" Philips (42PLF3312) €999 - €300 club card vouchers

I was in tesco yesterday & couldve sworn its the 42" 5532 (or whatever the PF5 code is) model for €999 not the 3312 model

So much diff info going round in diff threads bout the philips models :D

Lord Deco is right, they have the 32" PFL 33213 in Tesco. I happened to be in Tesco Jervis today and to torture myself, I asked the assistant about them. I fully expected/wanted her to say that they were all sold out at dawn. But no, there were 3 or 4 of them there in the middle of the floor.

Deal lasts 'til 31st Dec '07 so hurry if you interested.

Mags16 didn't care about the deal in Power City on St Stephens Day.
Mags16 didn't care about Philips offering extra commission to assistants to plug their models.
Mags16 didn't care that every other electrical shop has the same model at the same price or thereabouts.
But Mags16 is RAAGGGING about the sweet Tesco deal.

You can get a lot of toilet rolls for €209 ...... to mop up my bitter tears.
