Not sure if this strictly falls under the heading songwriting, but I'm looking for music composition software, something where I can enter notes into scores and play it back.

I have guitar pro and powertabs, but they just aren't quite what I'm looking for, also I'm not a guitarist so a lot of it is wasted on me. Does anyone have any experience in the field, or any suggestions?

    Much thanks.

You could try using Finale NotePad. It's a free download, it lets you choose what instruments you want to put on it as well as tempo, dynamics, note value, everything really, and it plays back.
just google "finale notepad free download" and it comes up as one of the first links.

Thanks for the reply, but to be honest, my first impressions of it are pretty poor.
It only lets you choose certain time signatures, and it automatically opens midi files in 4/4, which is not helpful when I'm trying to edit a piece with multiple time signatures.

Check out 'Sibelius', that sounds like exactly what ur looking for, i've been using it for years, it fairly expensive as far as i know, but if u find someone that has it u can get it from their machine illegally, thats how i got it...
