was in ghana a few years ago, worked in accra as a volunteer so unfortunately didnt really get to travel around much.
Flew into Accra with ghana airways, luggage didnt arrive until a week later, so def bring any important bits in hand luggage. lots of mosquitoes so make sure you've all your vaccinations & malaria tablets ( i stupidly left them in my check in luggage). I really liked Accra, very friendly people and safe. Food is okay and there were a few nice bars, even an Irish bar in Accra. If you've long hair, recommend getting your hair done in braids before you leave, massively cheaper than home and they do it brilliantly. lots of internet cafes scattered all over the city. They love their soccer there, Hearts of Oak are the local Accra team and well worth going to see a match. North of Accra there are some lovely rainforests, well worth doing as a day trip. If you are flying with ghana airways, they used to way overbook people on the flight so get there really early on the return flight cos i did but on checking in plane was full, had to wait another 3 days to fly home. maybe its changed now though but wouldn't chance it. I had never been to Africa so first few days were a bit of a culture shock but then I really liked it. Hope all these ramblings are of some help.
