Joggers and dogs

I have had three incedents with joggers in St. Annes park over the last year.

    1. A group of twelve runners ran straight at me on a tarmac path. I had my dog on a lead, he took a few steps back when he saw them coming towards us (they were sprinting) I tried to get out of the way, but didn't in time, this made one of the runners have to avoid me, she screamed "JESUS CHRIST" at me.

    2. I had my dog off the lead in the allocated time allowed for off lead dog walking. He was walking beside me with a stick in his mouth. I was walking in the grass about ten metres from the path. A jogger veered off the path and ran BETWEEN me and the dog. He had to run sideways to fit! He told me to "put the f*cking dog on a lead".

    3. I was walking on the main avenue. Here is a picture of it.

A jogger ran towards me on one of the little paths to the side. She ran about two inches away from me and the dog looked at her. She jumped as if the dog had bit her with her hands in the air shouting "for gods sake".

Lots of other dog walkers have told me about similar instances. Just keep an eye out, they are looking for trouble.

It might help to mention what type of dog you have. Some are not allowed off the lead no matter what the park says.

Brrr... Looks cold in the picture. Buy a 3 hole balaclava in the Army Bargins shop just off Caple Street (the turnoff West at the AIB bank). It'll keep you warm:cool:

    Also, is that snow?

Good point, its a gun dog, not one of the restricted breeds. He is friendly too, properly socialised, well trained, walks beside me, not pulling on the lead or acting aggresive.

I am being geunine here Jumpy, I obey all the rules, this lot are trouble makers. A park warden saw the last instance and asked me what went on. When I told him what happened he said that instances like that was what started the ban on dogs on beaches (during certain months) on Dublins Southside.

Yeah, the joggers would love that, a dog walker with a balaclava!

Its frost, last years winter, first thing in the morning.

As St Anne's Park is huge I would have thought it was big enough to accomodate dogs and joggers. Unfortunately, if anything happened and it came to court I'm sure the law would come down on the side of the joggers.

Thanks for the warning as I walk my own dog there sometimes.

I know!! Its some sort of attitude problem, like "why should I get out of their way".

Strange, there is acres of playing fields where they could jog sans dogs!

Sounds like it. I also walk my dog in the Phoenix Park regularly and generally meet lots of joggers. I've never experienced any bad feelings from them. In fact most greet me as they run past.

It must be the sea air at St. Anne's :D

Lightening isn't that awful you can't walk your dog in peace  I was walking my dog not so long ago and a jogger spat on the ground and said fecking dog owners shouldn't be allowed. Well i turned to her and said "look Bridget Jones if you want to loose any weight off that ass you will need to run not jog further than here you lazy lump" No sign of her since.
