Why was the hunt in Waterford targeted by the anti-hunt crowd yesterday does anyone know, I mean why there and not anywhere else? This was in the Examiner today.

Renewed call for total ban on fox hunting

By Sean O’Riordan and Ciarán Murphy
PROTESTERS called for a total ban on fox hunting yesterday and reiterated their determination to sabotage such events in the coming months.

Up to 30 members of the Association of Hunt Saboteurs and BadgerWatch Ireland held a protest as the Waterford Foxhounds staged their annual St Stephen’s Day hunt in Tramore.

John Tierney, campaign director for the hunt saboteurs, said it is his organisation’s intention to step up their presence at such meets and to try and disrupt as many as possible.

To answer your question, I just dont think they have the numbers to protest en masse, so have to select one lucky hunt.

    BadgerWatch Ireland though???

I'm moving this to the hunting forum, mods there feel free to send it back if you so wish.

it's also the one most local to tierney and badgerwatch Ireland, who are both one man bands in waterford, unreal that they can command the headlines.
it's a pity thousands going hunting can't ever raise a headline.

There was a full front page photo of a hunt in Newtownards (Co Down) in the Belfast News Letter after St Stephen's Day. It is a pro-hunting paper and has a weekly 'Rod and Gun' column written by Dan Kinney. That is abut the only decent read in the paper unfortunately as it's not exactly 'all-inclusive' with regard to the nationalist comunity up here. Still, the photo showed the huge crowds that turned put to see the hunt going through the town.

The Examiner has gone seriously downhill over the last few years - their circulation figures are dropping albeit by only .2% in 06. I'd say they'll be way down this year with the rise of the Daily Mail here.

The majority of their staff are a bunch of hippy pissheads :p They've lost touch with reality and their largely rural Corkonian readership.

They used to always have a pic of the South Union in Carrigaline on Stephens Day - was it on this year?

Not sure of this year, but last year the examiner had the carbery hunt just it was leaving ballinacurragh bridge, and they had quite a good picture for the clonmel coursing event.

the Muskerry were in it this year and also in the Echo.

this might be of interest too
might be a bit far for most on here but you never know.

HAI (Hunting Association of Ireland) are calling a monster rally in The Silver Springs Hotel Cork Thursday January 10th at 8.00pm

All Government TD's in Cork area have been invited

Please spread the word to all hunting, shooting, fishing and field sport supporters. It is important that we support these events early on before it is too late like in the UK or recently the Ward Union Stag Hounds debacle in which the Green Party TD John Gormley stealthily introduced licenses and unworkable obstructions to hunting. We need to show our resounding support and drive the message home to our local TD’s and show these idiots up for what they really are? See you on the 10th

Perhaps a note on the equestrian board may help.

Some folks have kicked off a bit on the pets/animal forum perhaps a word or two from shooters may clarify a few things, ie not sickos!

As a Cork woman who reads the examiner and who has an uncle working there as an editor....i'll say no more.

Are there any other events apart from that scheduled for Thursday (i'm only home for weekends)?

Anyway the Carrigaline one was in the Evening Echo. It's an amazing thing to witness. I follow the Muskerry Hunt though being from West Muskerry myself.
I don't know how strong the anti hunt lobby is in Ireland at the moment though.

the anti hunt lobby is not so strong as it well connected.
the examiner had an article this week saying the anit's will again be targeting the coursing in Clonmel after a 10 year break.
they never took a break just only had 4-5 people protesting there and thousands going past them to go in!
    just a load of spin.
