I travel quite a bit for football games in England and scotland but often the flights are sky high right away and I dont know If I can travel till the last minute due to work. Does anyone here travel on standby and how does it work? I know all the downsides (not guaranteed a seat etc) but would do it if was cheap enough as I know theres always empty seats on flights so will get home 1 way or another

Standby is virtually non-existant now. Where it does exist, it's generally restricted to airline staff.

    Aer-Lingus do it anyway,

I ended up paying 280 euros to get a one way flight to Berlin from Dublin,

The lads going to the same place with Aer-Lingus in cork got a ticket for 50 euro one way on standby

Aye, I went on standby (remembering when years ago such a thing was cheap) for an internal UK flight and the normal cost was extortionate, I had to get a business class flight which was cheaper than the standard cost. Don't ask me why, I was tired and narky so I just bought it without much fuss. The benefit however was the unlimited booze and comfy seats in the business class lounge..

no such thing as cheap standby for passengers anymore only airline staff. t for example if you come up last minute for a flight from cork to london with ryanair and it is full you can be put on standby but you have to pay over 200yoyos. the 40 that someone was charged was a missed flt fee. if you miss a flt with ryanair you can pay this fee and go on standby for the next one if its full. usually a 10% no-show rate on ryanair flts. nearly all airlines are the same, i worked on tkt desk. there is absoultly no way to get a cheap seat last minute it is completly the opposite. we always had lads come up asking to go anywhere pissed at 6am thinking they would be put in the cargo hold for 15 euro.
