Well lads, In Korea at the minute teaching english.

Basically I'm thinking very seriously about staying here on a semi-permanent/permanent basis so I'm thinking I should try and start looking for a "better" job for next year and after.

Basically I'm an IT graduate, 4 yr BSc in Computing. Was working as a software engineer in a research and development gig for nearly 2 years at home before coming here.

    So ...

    Problems;
    - I don't speak Korean.
    - The Korean IT sector has any amount of people to choose from. i.e > They can pick and choose people and they have a lot of them.

Anyone any idea what to do or experience in a similar situation ?

I was thinking that perhaps my native English knowledge could be a "selling point" for certain positions but frankly I've being goggling and can't find anything except teaching English jobs.

I know I saw one job a while ago which, from what I gathered, was basically a PR guy for a company with a background in IT and native English a requirement.
Another was proof reading/writing technical manuals.

    So .... Anyone ?

Were you in Japan I would suggest that you could make a good living out of teaching English!

Hey Loyd, from what I know, Korea's actually better than Japan for the olde teaching gig from a financial point of view but I specifically want to do something IT-y and not have wasted 4 years of Uni :)

At least something besides teaching, Its ok but I'm much better with technical problems then people problems.

Well you're less likely to be chosen for one of the "grunt" IT positions that millions of South Korean super-programmers are queueing up for, but you have a huge advantage when it comes to western companies and English speaking roles. I don't know what the story is with visas and all that, but if you're all legit then you could send your CV to all the usual suspects like Intel and Microsoft - might help if you recreate yourself as a strategic business analyst specialising in progressive technical consultancy... and synergy. Alternatively, as an experienced programmer, you might be able to make it as a freelancer or remote web programmer or something.

it's marketing BS for BI consultancy!
however I do recomend speaking in a language that appeal to your interlocutors ;)

    I love Asia, good luck!
It's so sad that because of some issue with car pollution I'm leaving Australia for Ireland... :(

    B.I.: Business Intelligence

A big part of "IT people" do such stuff, they go to see client, look at their IT infrastructure and advise a new, better (and often very expensive) IT infrastructure (on demande software or ERP, etc...)
They sometimes speak like that, but it's mostly a parody. Being understood by the customer is paramount. As well as suggesting something which will cut cost and improve productivity in the end (hence the "business" name).
I'm surprised you haven't run into such people yet!! ;)

Ok, has anyone gone from Ireland out to Asia and got work though ? I'd be very interested in hearing about it.
