Traffic in Dublin city centre in 1985 (videos)

I found these videos today, while they are mainly of the various Leyland Atlantean & Bombardier buses, it may bring back nostalgia for some of you of what used crowd Dublin city streets back in the 80's. Lots of (now) old Datsun's, Toyota's, Austin's, Ford's, etc.

Note the cloud of smoke coming out of the Leyland bus at the start of the video. The good ol' days before the DOE & NCT tests! Also, did anyone ever use yellow boxes back then?

I wonder how many of all the vehicles shown in these videos are still on the roads today? Not many I'd assume.

Wouldnt it be great if you could walk down oconnell st today with cars like that driving around,i find it very hard to imagine getting as nostalgic in 20 years time about todays street furniture!!

I was noticing in those videos alot of Nissan Stanza's. I find it amazing that I haven't seen one of those since the mid-90's I reckon. Surely they weren't THAT bad?

Thats very true, i havnt seen a stanza for 10 years or more, rare as hens teeth as they say, but i doubt theres anyone around that would want one either, i dont think they were praised for their handling when they were new.:eek:

Just looking at these again,theres a good few fiat 131s driving around, now if someone has an original irish one of those still on the road id like to see photos of her!!I havnt seen one of those on the road for near 20 years id say.A friend of mine had one and he said it was so rotten he used to jam timber between the rear pillars to keep it together until he could afford a new car!:eek:

That junction at the top of O'Connell St is still getting blocked everyday by clowns driving through the traffic lights and coming to a stop in the middle of the yellow box, I see it everyday. Great to see the video though, we have come a long way as regards emissions at least
