    Hello ,I've been wondering lately about how the ps3 compares to the xbox360.
    I haven't thrawled through websites for imformation or anything ,I've just kind of come to my own view on the ps3 as a gaming machine.

    Would I be right in saying that an integral part of the ps3 ,is that during it's processing ,a lot of network calculations are done at the same time as the graphics?

    Whereas with the Xbox ,the graphics are done solely on one chip and then sent onto to the network.

    The reason I was wondering about this is ,will it be another year or so before the ps3 has a game worthy of it's technology or I have missed something here?

    theyre both multicore, depending which stats you read both seem roughly the same power

    one is better at some things, the other at others, but all round from what ive read theyre basically on a par

    i disagree, as a regular user of both. my downloads run faster on PSN, my friends list is much more accessable to me and it looks nicer on ps3. gaming is a bit of a wench because it's different for each game, but each game seems to have it cracked as it is anyway. the problem psn has is that it's not "integrated"... but i'm sick of paying €50/yr to have an "integrated" service as it is

    yes but you got to pay to play.

    i'm not defending sony's online portal but i just don't get why people pay for xbox live to play a crappy game of halo3 hosted by some kid on a crappy connection with a crappy upload (which is pretty important for hosting games)?

    Would sony's lack of hardware have anything to do with a poor service ?

    I thought that because it's free ,sony only spend money they make from sales on the the network. Would this be the case?

    Yeah I played Halo3 online at a friends house... big load of overhyped crap.
    A fast-action multiplayer FPS and some shítty joypad/thumb-stick really don't mix either.
    Just get yourself an old second-hand gaming PC and pick up a copy of UT2004 for €9 ... you'll have a far better experience.

    well if that is indeed the case they'll will have to shape up for when they release "home" their rival to xbox live which is free for the features that actually matter like multiplayer/meet up with friends etc whereas you pay then for content like accessories for your home apartment etc.

    Have both. Xbox is much better online. I will pay for things that are much better.

    Graphically there is little between them. I think PS will ultimately triumph in this area but how much can they pull ahead by? Whats left to do after "shockingly awesome".

    Media centre.. xbox and its not close.

    Games... xbox but I believe that will change in time.

    Both are excellent machines, it depends where your stresses lie.

    When you think about how good the PS3 launch titles were in comparison to X360? RFOM v King Kong? And PS3 titles to date are holding their own against the "established" X360. Point in fact; post on here about Penny Arcade reviewing Burnout Paradise for the PS3 and X360, (cant find linky!) but suffice it to say that PA were MORE than confident that the PS3 version won out. Probably for the first time since the consoles started releasing simultaneous titles.

    I think its onwards and upwards for the PS3. I mean, the regular updates are ground breaking stuff (albeit the last one for DivX support was hot on the heels of the X360 one). But the DVD upscaling, the DivX support and hopefully in the future, updates to allow ingame access to the XMB, are all fantastic for the future of home entertainment and gaming.

    And M$ had to release another console to support native HD through HDMI?

    I have both, so the only thing that make me choose are console-exclusive games, and the multiplayer aspect. Im reluctant to get games that I will predominantly play multiplayer on, for the PS3, simply because my mates dont have PS3's.

    If you're caught between the 2, there are some major factors that will help you decide.

    * Are you a complete "gaming loner", ie. like the single player games better? (+1 for PS3)
    * Are you a graphics bitch (+1 for PS3)
    * Plan on watching lots of HD movies, dont want to have to buy an add on? (+1 for PS3)
    * Want to play online a lot with your mates (+1 for X360)
    * Want access to lots of retro arcade games, and much greater selection of downloadable content (+1 for X360)
    * Halo fan? (+1 for X360)
    * Sport Hi-tec runners, a towelled headband, retro adidas tracksuit, handlebar moustache and live in a kitsch 80's style apartment where the most technologically advanced apparatus you have is 6ft by 4ft CD player? (+1 for the Atari 2600)..

    Simple choice.
