ComReg approves O2 Ireland 3G coverage assessment plan
    Published: Friday 21 December 2007

Ireland's Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has accepted a proposal from O2 Ireland to assess its 3G network coverage. ComReg believes the proposal will enhance 3G services for Irish consumers. O2 Ireland is proposing an 85 percent outdoor demographic coverage target by end-2007, up from a previous target of 80 percent; rising to 89 percent by end-2008 and 90.2 percent by end-2009. The proposal for measuring outdoor demographic coverage replaces previous measurement of indoor coverage.

Please read that document carefully bealtine !!

We are talking about Comreg here after all. :(

O2 themselves when punting for the 3g B licence they got had proposed 80% indoor coverage by end 2007. This would mean 90% + outdoor coverage , quite an onerous target compared to the other 3g networks but one set by O2 for themselves.

Comreg changed this target to 85% outdoor which translates as as little as about 70-75% indoors( maybe even less considering population dispersal factors etc )

Therefore Comreg reduced the o2 coverage target that o2 themselves had originally proposed. Comreg have increased nothing .

As O2 have also rolled out EDGE in many if not most areas and allow fallback to EDGE I feel its probably only fair to reduce their targets to something like the other 3g networks.

Now if Comreg could explain to 3 what a fuggin mail server is :(
