They had a "sale" a week after Thanksgiving afaik. Not sure about after Christmas. Wouldn't bet on it though, and if they did the savings would be mediocre at best anyway. If you are going to wait till January then you may as well wait until after Macworld where Jobs is likely to announce a new subnotebook. It's all speculation though.

You don't need a sale if you buy from America. It's crazy how much cheaper things are when you convert the dollar to euro.

If it wasn't for import tax, I don't think Ireland would have any shops left.

Well you can only order from the .com site if you live in the US. You can buy them and have it shipped to someone you know and settle the bill with a usd bank draft.

But the price over there is worth the trip :D

Do you think it would be safe to ship a fragile item like a mac book pro from the US? I am thinking of doing this but would be afraid that it gets a few knocks on its travels.

The only safe way is with a courier like FedEx, in which case you'll be charged VAT at customs.

I've oredered from the states more fragile things like guitars etc. Apple do wrap up there shipments very well. My only suggestion would be to use UPS, tracking numbers make the whole thing alot easier. Customs will catch up with you, but the savings are worth it.

Im using a PowerBook G4 thats almost 4 years old, never had any issues with it and that was shipped over.

Anyway, I'd never trust the baggage handlers in the airport. Both times I brought guitars back with me and both times they have cracks in the cases.

If your over there you can simple walk into any UPS shop and get a price and organise to ship it there and then...they make it simple :) Thats for large stuff you'd not be bringing on a plane....I was think about a MacPro & a 23" display once, and was going to bring it back this way.
